Hey guys been tryin to get my apex ready for deer season. Got a his and been using imr 4198 55-60 grains with Pittman and tried a few parkers also. Both 275 grain. my Windage is staying fairly consistent but elevation is all over the place. I'll group a couple then it will throw one a couple inches high. Then six inches high and then come back down in my group. Is this a obturation problem? Iv made sure everything was tight so I was guessing it was either that or a bad scope.

Wad or no? also the break actions are very finicky as far as how you hold them from the bench, if you are shooting from a bag let the bag support the gun from the triggerguard forward, that's how I get my best accuracy.
I use a veggie wad from my factory Apex barrel, without it accuracy was sketchy, with a wad under MOA. you gun could very well be different.

I'd try a wool wad between the powder and bullet, also try a slightly tighter bullet fit.
Like Bill says the lighter break action guns can be finicky in the bags. A small shift in the muzzle on a light short gun at the bench is big at a distance. Keep it snug to the shoulder at the bench.

The wool or veggie wad in the break action is going to you a more consistent velocity.
Had the same issue with my TC and when I went to a .60 veggie wad the gun started shooting well.
I starting shooting each shot through a chronograph and without the veggie wad I was experiencing some extreme differences in velocity.
Good luck

yeah I used sand bags an even took sling stud out. Bullets are pretty tight at muzzle after fouling. Loosen up gradually down the barrel. Yeah I gonna try a wad. I was afraid that might have been the problem but was trying to stay away from it if I could lol. Thanks guys.

Here is a video of a CVA Scout V2 I tested this weekend. It shot lights out.... Just a bullet and 65 grains of IMR 4198 powder. I would up your charge to 65 grains and see if that helps.
If your bullets are cutting nice round holes in the target I would say you are getting good obturation.

Will do Jeff thank you! That looks like a good conversion! I was thinkin u said 60 was the max powder charge for the apex. Maybe I got it confused with the encore?

My pro hunter break open load is 68 grains IMR-4198 with a Parker 300 gr BE bullet with a pretty tight fit no wad. It was built by Jeff & Dylan@ MGM and wears a straight bull barrel. I use a bull bag to hold it firmly while shooting of the bench and its accuracy is amazing. I have used this load on 7 different pro hunter builds, only one of them has the breech diameter moved off 1.002 after 150 shots. But I am me , you be you .. as most would not be comfortable shooting this load. That being said I would use Jeff'S recommendation not mine

I'm gonna try to mess with it and see if I can tighten it up some but if not I'm happy with it. Thanks Jeff.
