Hello everyone. I have one of hanks Brux barrels on my savage target action. I also have his sizing die. My trouble I am having is that if I size the Parker match hunter down enough to where I can get it started then it just falls through the bore after the first inch or so. What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like the barrel is choked at the muzzle. How long is it? Do you have a brake on it? Call me at the shop and I will see if I can help you figure this out on the phone.

Try cleaning the rifle with JB Bore Paste. I would work the muzzle more than the rest. I did this with a McGowan Barrel (it's choked either way) and it helped a lot. The paste is not a lapping compound but I think the muzzle fouls a lot faster and more than rest of barrel.

That sounds unusual for a Brux barrel. Do like Jeff advised and give him a call.

Let Hank check it out with a bore scope. It only takes one land to have a small Knick or rough spot out near the muzzle to cause this problem. My barrel on Blue Thunder had a tight muzzle sort of like what you have. M.ine came from the indicator rod I used to dial the barrel in. I JB the barrel and after 30 to 40 rounds it smoothed right out and the rest is history. So I would not panic the problem should be fixable.

I had similar problems sizing 300 grain Match Hunters. My Brux barrel seems to have a couple of tight spots in it after firing a couple of shots, just not at the breech. I have read enough to see that this is not uncommon for some barrels. At first, I knurled the Match Hunters just enough to keep them from dropping down the barrel. The knurling worked ok and I was seeing good accuracy. After working with the die, I got it set perfectly to require consistent light pressure (two finger) all the way down the barrel. My groups tightened up to under 1/2 MOA and the es went down as well.
The pia was when I had to reset the die for XTPs again. The XTPs ride on the two grooves around the bullet, and have to be set looser than the Match Hunters for optimum fit. Even with the adjustable dies, I do not like having to change the settings from one bullet to the next, but it is mandatory. I would be more concerned about whether the tight spot was impacting accuracy. In my rifle, I don't see that it is.

I have separate dies for different guns and bullets because I also hate moving my die.

Would indexing help on this particular barrel?
