I have a ML2 Brux barrel on the way with HIS209 plug. Jeff hankins is making these barrels available again. If anyone would just like to re-barrel theirs it is a very cost effective way to have a more accurate ML2. HIS209 plug is the best 209plug I have personally ever used. FYI

I've owned two ML2 with Pacnor barrels and a 209 Plug 100% sealed. They both were very accurate, and had consistent ignition....Good solid rifles and proven deer killers.

I'm anxious to see how you get along Dennis . Thanks Doug. I'm anxious also, patience is not a virtue of mine so a few months wait seems like a few years. Also a big learning curve from sabots to sabot-less. I will continue to ask questions and fish for all the information I can to try to get up to acceptable accuracy. I am grateful for any and all help .

How did you get them to seal?? My MLII is on its third barrel and I've tried every suggestion given to get that 209 ignition to seal without success. It is very accurate, and a proven deer killer, but the carbon blowback around the primers is aggravating.

Out of all the 209 plugs I have used Hanks is by far the best, but when I tried Fed.299's they leaked. Win. 209's no leaking up to 65gr h4198 with 250gr in my apex. I don't have my ml2 back together but am confident it will perform the same. I don't know what Jeff does to his primer pockets but only know his plugs perform well for me.

Like you said, very aggravating.....The ASG plug with the rear shoulder was machined smaller than the diameter of a Winchester primer allowing a tighter fit diameter wise and also making it possible to get a slight crush fit on the nose. A little careful work and it's possible....My son and a friend shoot a ML 2 that I set up that has clean primers everytime. Bestill has also set up a couple break open guns for me using the ASG plug with the same results...It can be done... Zen

Even a Savage plug can be sealed well by installing a shelf for the primer nose to seal against. I've done it lots of times. Not any more though. Everything I own is either lrmp or DI. I made DI Savage replacement plugs for my Savage plug guns too.

I had Jeff put together my last gun and he did a great job. I feel he did a great job getting the 209 primer to seal as good as you can get it. The gun goes bang every time with out duplex and that is exactly what I was looking for.
While everyone is going to lrmp and direct ignition, I still like my 209 ignition system for hunting. If I was more into competition shooting I'd make the switch to lrmp and his system. One day when my life slows down and I have time for more shooting I might make the switch then.
Good luck with your new rifle Dennis. I'm sure you'll be happy with it.

I'm doing what my budget allows and besides that I am a hunter. I have been to Ky. and seen some of you guys shoot and I'm not in that league. I am however a minute of deer shooter. Anyway I was just letting any interested parties know Jeff is making them available. I'm not advertising for him, he doesn't need me to cause his work speaks for itself.

This will be my first year hunting without 209's. If I had not started making my own plugs out of 17-4 stainless, I would still be hunting with 209. I have killed a few truck loads of deer with 209 and can guarantee they do the job. I just chose to take a step forward.
