Could someone with a CVA Scout measure the diameter of the breach of the barrel? I'd like to know if it's larger than the Encore's 1 inch diameter. Also would like to know how long the shank (untapered section) of the barrel is.
I called CVA but they were clueless.

Looked at some old posts where you were inquiring about these in .444 and someone stated that Carlos said it was the same as the apex which is 1.1". I am only going by that. My apex is 1.1" The untapered portion, on mine is at least 4"from the breech. Hope this helps.

Dennis, thanks for your comments. I also think that the Scout might have the larger barrel diameter as the discontinued Apex. I bought a CVA Stalker (now discontinued along with the Apex) that has a 24 inch barrel but the shank measures 1 inch. Since all the other CVA guns appear to use 1 inch shanks, I'm hoping to find someone who can measure a Scout barrel. If the Scout is the only CVA that uses the larger barrel diameter, it could be the best candidate for a break action SML.
I'm thinking of upgrading to a Scout but want to be sure of the barrel dimensions.

The scope holes are what kinda get me thinking. Not sure how much more of a safety factor Another 1/10 of an inch would get me.

Optima elite was 1" also and I have seen youtube video of Hank's conversion. I think you would just have to be conservative on the loads. Check with Scat he has H&R I think and I believe it is 1" also.

If the barrel has roughly a 1/2 inch chamber, the chamber wall on a 1 inch diameter barrel would be about .250 thick. With a 1.1 inch diameter barrel, the chamber wall would be roughly .300" thick. That's about 20% thicker. I wouldn't be surprised if a 20% thicker chamber wall increases the strength more than 20%. In any case, I think that having a 20% thicker chamber wall would give me a greater peace of mind.... plus, I think I would like the Scout better than the Elite Stalker and I'm looking for some justification for buying another gun!
I still would be grateful if anyone with a Scout could measure the diameters of the barrel at the breach and the muzzle, the length of the straight shank and the length of the barrel without the muzzle brake.

I guess the Scout is no larger than the other CVA guns. What chamber does your Scout barrel have and what is the length of the barrel with and without the muzzle brake?

My scout is 25 inches with the break. The apex is 25 with no break. Both are .45-70 barrels with the arrowhead 209 plug, they shoot great!
