The Pittman Bullets .402" project is well underway. Bullet Testing will begin within the next 2 weeks if everything goes as planned. That's all I can say for now.

Wi'll these bullets size to .400-.390 full form? Just needing to know what barrel to order.

I don't see a reason why these won't full form in a .392 bore / .400 groove barrel. Testing will be smooth form primarily . I wouldn't order anything slower than 1 in 16 twist if it were me, but that decision is up to you.

they should size in a .400-.390 with no problem.

Bullet weights that are made available first will largely depend on the results of the Twist Rate Poll.

My best friend is going to be building a SML within the next year. I already have a Hankin's Brux/700 45 cal for myself but am eventually going to build another SML for my kids to hunt with at some point. (Our first just turned two a couple weeks ago) I'm interested in this 40 cal bullet project as well as my best friend is too.
What we're curious to know is for inexpensive practice bullets will the 0.400" pistol bullets such as the 180-200 grain offerings from Hornady, Nosler, Winchester etc. perform well enough to plink with in a 40 cal SML? Looking at Midway I see them listed for 20-30 cents a piece.
It's great to see Pittman bullets offering a premium 40 cal hunting bullet. Though I don't expect it to be cost effective for plinking or other high volume shooting when compared to the available pistol bullets in 40 caliber. As a hunting bullet and precision target bullet though I'm sure the Pittman 40 cal will be hard if not impossible to be beat by any other 40 caliber bullet on the market. Thank you for your dedication and efforts Kyle!

Would love to have a 40 but..... Indiana won't change their antiquated rules to something that is more compatible with the capability of modern muzzleloaders.

Thank you for your dedication and efforts Kyle! It all depends on your barrel. Mcgowen and Rock Creek barrels are .401-.408 so the use of .400 bullets requires a lot of knurling. However, I made an adjustable smooth form die to size down .411 bullets for the 405 winchester to .408 for full form sizing in my Rock Creek. Both Hornady and Barnes make 405 winchester bullets. .392-.400 barrels can take full formed .400 to .402 bullets.

Looks like the Bullets that will be tested will be 225gr, 250gr and 275gr. I should have the bullets in hand this time next week.
