I know and have seen the improvements with the HIS and Direct ignition systems over the 209. I have a HIS209 plug in my apex. This is the best 209 plug that I have used or personally seen as far as no primer leaking. I know it is a step backwards as far as what is currently available but I have no regrets in having this particular 209 plug installed in my apex. At the point in time when I had it converted I would have had to sacrifice going on a hunt or having Jeffs module HIS plug installed. I like to hunt so that is the choice I made with no regrets.

No regrets for sure! Would it be nice to have the latest and greatest, heck yes! But for the average working Joe, its hard to keep up with the times on everything. The 209 is still plenty good enough for hunting with the right setup.
I have 2 of the original PacNor 45's with Savage plugs in them. One is a Sav 10ml2 for woods, and the other is a Rem700ml for long range.
Find what works for you load wise, and go hunting. I have killed a lot of deer and punched a lot of paper over the years, and still going strong.
I admire the effort of all involved with this great sport. I started on the other board, but the nonsense made me walk. I followed along here, and admit, it is a very nice atmosphere, much friendlier.
I hope to get down to meet everybody at one of the shoots eventually. Single income family with a little guy makes doing everything you want challenging.

I started with smokeless Muzzleloaders a few years ago when a DIY'er only had the 209 savage plug to work with (as far as I know) and boy did I shoot some great groups with that rifle, that's what got me hooked. I see advantages and disadvantages to all the different types of ignition systems, 209 primers work great for me now, but I do like to tinker, so who knows what the future will bring.

I still hunt with my old outdated Savage with 209 primers and a PacNor barrel that will shoot one hole groups at 100 all day if I do my part. That said, I hope to get one of Jeff's rifles with the HIS system someday.

Jeff's rifles are awesome and I also would be proud to own one.

Nothing wrong with a 209 if its sealed well and meets your needs. I have all mine sealed well for the loads I use but if I was shooting 78gr of Imr 4198 like the big boys here do I would probably use the HIS lrp system.

i have the 209 plug on several barrels. also have hanks LRP system too. along with a DIS plug. there all good for specific needs.
when hunting, i want it simple and the 209 plug does very well within my range of shooting......50yrds or less in my swamp here in lowest bama. filled our freezer quite well this past year and hope it does the same very soon.
