The Rock Creek 40 is complete. 28" bbl .401/.408 13.2 twist HIS and Direct ignitions. Of course it is a Savage as i dont build anything else. Boyds pro varmint stock. Sightron SIII 8-32x56. Rifle Basix trigger set to 12oz. I made 3 adjustable dies. Smooth form, full form, and a larger smooth form die to size down bullets for a 405 winchester which measure .411 down to .408 for full forming.

If looks could kill, it should be a shooter but then beauty is sometimes only skin deep? A captive audience is awaiting your results!

I too have a full size .40 in the oven, with lots of new bullets to test I need something a little less stressful on the old shoulder.

40cal is the smallest allowed here for deer hunting. Ive always wanted a 40 based on 405win just to duplicate those ballistics and shoot lead conicals. McGowan offers a 402x411 and a 402x409. It will be interesting to see if you try the 405 Hornady SpirePoints full formed.

Great looking gun. Interesting caliber for a long range muzzleloader. One thing I notice is where you have your rear scope ring mounted it is on the thin part of the one piece base . I have found that those bases will actually flex enough at that point to cause accuracy problems. It looks like you have room to move the rear base back onto the thick part of the base squarely ontop of the action.
Hope to see some good targets. I always liked the Boyd's Pro Varmint stock excellent choice.

Shot the 40 today. Only took charges of 95gr Imr4831. Shot 6 of the 405 winchester lead tips. Accuracy was not good at around 2 to 3 inches. I think they just need the charge tuned. Then I shot the Pittman/Hammer 300's with the same charge. These bullets were involved in die adjustments so there were a couple of loose ones but I shot them anyway. I was very pleased with the results and with a little tuning will be awesome. Kudos Kyle. Thanks for your efforts. Attachments:

Only one group was shot, so it is what it is. I think this is a very respectable group at that distance given that the bullets were all different size as he was adjusting the die as he went along. .774 MOA 4 shot group. Nice shooting Jerry!! Thanks for testing these for me!
