I'm convinced after this mornings trip to the range that I am going to have to get an adjustable die to get the kind of accuracy/consistency out of my apex when shooting sabot-less. I shot with wool wads veggie wads and without wads, without wads was the best grouping but just under 2" at 100yds. I had bullets sized to .4495 and knurled a little, they did not load with consistent force and it showed on the chronograph. Best ES was with veggie wad at 55 and wool wad and no wad were at ES of 90-100 none of which are good and the groups showed it in vertical stringing. These were all 250gr xtp bullets and maybe thats all the better they will shoot but I think it has more to do with the sizing. Starting out with a fouled barrel kept everything a lot better than previous trips out. I'll get there eventually.Oh was shooting w209 primer .035 bushing 56gr H4198@ 2245-2345fps range between all groups. I have already tried to duplex this with 10gr n110 and 50gr h4198 with not as good results. No primer leaking either.

get a die when you can, it will make a big difference in consistency and in group size.

Also something to try is 275 BE's they are a little easier on the pocket book and they may load without having to size. I could not get them to load with my Optima Elite 45 without sizing but you might check if someone has a couple you can try. If I had some I could send you I would but I don't have any.
With BE's you'll want to stay off the shoulders and try to get straight up lung shots, they are a little explosive. Good luck.

Well I guess I'm going to have to hock the non essential things around here like the wifes jewelry and such so I can get more important things like a die and some bullets.

Let me know how that works out for you I know I'm too old to be sleeping under bridges or on the ground in the woods. It all sounded better while I was first thinking of it. Maybe just get rid of all my tools and lawn equipment and it would leave me more hunting, fishing, and range time.

dennis,
good luck with that... I would say what the missus don't know won't hurt her, but thoughts like that have a way of bitin' a guy in the backside
I may have to let you use mine since it's collecting dust right now. Got a new CEO a while back, and since he took over work has been chaotic at best. My free time was minimal, now non-existent. Had 1 big break, haven't fired a shot since...

That is a very generous offer but I will get it together eventually. I prayed for patience one time and have seen a lot of troubles. I guess that is how patience is learned. I have a couple other things up my sleeve to try till then. Inevitably I will need an adjustable die when I get my ml2 action with brux barrel back. I know I can use saboted 200sst at just over 1/2moa if I want. I took 5 deer with that last season. Best wishes on getting a little free time.

dennis,
are you using harvester sabots or mmps? Might have to come up with a backup plan if I don't get time to work out the kinks with the sizing die...

Get a die....an essential tool +1 A gracious friend is giving me one. It is hard to get consistent proper sizing without it, as I am learning. I am in full agreement with all who have suggested it. I will have my re-barreled ml2 back together soon and will have all the more need for it.
