I took my daughter out to the range yesterday to get some practice in for the upcoming Sept. Iowa Youth Deer Hunt. I smoothed sized some Hornady 250gr FTXs, the first one loaded hard on a fouled barrel. I thought they would get easier after the first shot but I was wrong, I couldn't get the next one down the bore so my daughter only got one shot in. This load is not a low recoil load but is somewhat easy on the shoulder, my daughter said it was not a problem. RemPac .45 100yds 250gr FTX 10gr N110 and 40gr IMR4198 veggie wad W209 primer After we got back home, I grabbed a rubber mallet and a stiff range rod and gently tapped the bullet home. I resized the remaining 3 FTXs a tad smaller, setting #10 instead of #8 on the swinglock die. The bullets still loaded hard but no mallet was needed. I went out this morning and shot the rest of the same loads planned for the previous day. The Pac-Nor barrel liked that load combo. For hunting, I will replace the FTX with a Barnes 250gr TEZ. My 4 shots (5 total) on the same target with my daughter's shot being the low one

Just be aware that the solid copper TEZ's my not load and shoot the same. Die settings may also be different since thee is little in the way of spring back and obturation can be a problem. I have gotten good results with them but some tinkering might be in order. That is some fine shooting and nothing wrong with those FTX's!

I looked through my notes and could have sworn I shot that rifle with the 10/40 duplex before, but I can only find notes on a 10/50 duplex with the TEZ, which shot very well. Dang Nabbit! Now I gotta go out to the range again and shoot more, the misery just never ends .
