I finally had a chance to take the Apex 45-70 to the range. I'm going to convert it to smokeless but I wanted to see how it would shoot a 45-70 round. This barrel was not made with quality in mind, if you read my other posts on this barrel, you will see the poor workmanship. If not for getting this barrel for free and no more left, it would have went back for a refund. I used Hornady 325gr LEVERevolution ammo, this round shoots well in my new Marlin 1895SBL 45-70, giving me 1" groups at 100yds. The taped hole is a sight-in round, the two closest to the bull were shot first, the next two after the barrel cooled some while I chatted with a fellow shooter. Overall, the barrel didn't shoot too bad. I'm pretty sure it will do better as a smokeless muzzleloader.
