Will it fire any other brand of primers? Make sure the bolt handle is "all the way down" and properly engaged. If not down all way this is common result. Not really enough information to thoroughly troubleshoot the problem but we'll start as best can. 10

10gaauto hit the nail on the head! Check and see that the mechanism on the right side of the action is not binding on the inside of the stock or something is keeping the bolt handle from completely closing. That is almost definitely the problem.

Check the timing on your bolt. look on the web and see if you can find a link.I had problems with 6mm br, timing was off on bat action and had to work on it!

I take my bolt apart every once in a while and thoroughly clean the firing pin and all other parts, I have had issues with primers before but mine was because the breach plug shoulder was eroding from cutting, and the inside barrel shoulder galling. Is it a savage plug? Check for cutting/ galling on the plug and inside the barrel.

Accutrigger...? If so you must fully depress the pre-trigger before engaging the trigger...If you are doing that, then I would suspect headspace issues...Federals are the biggest in diameter that I know of so a different primer would not be tight fit which would give you blowby issues...Hope this helps...

Have you messed with the trigger weight adjustment? Too light and that can cause a problem.

Could his Federal primers be sitting deeper in the breechplug? Try a different breechplug.

Or the O ring or shims in bottom primer pocket = could help tell what is going on. Or Win primers, they are the longest.
Where are you located? perhaps an experienced SML guy is close and he can help with a hands on trouble shoot.
If you in eastern VA or MD I'm retired and pretty clear schedule. 10

Does anyone know of anyone off the top of their head that might want to buy it? I want to sell it and get Jeff to build me a CVA Scout V2 45-70.
