I thought I would shoot my new Hankins muzzle loader the other day that I got from Jeff a couple of weeks ago. I had him build me a conversion of a Rem Ultimate with a Brux 1:18 twist barrel finished at 29" with a muzzle brake and a jewel trigger set at 1lb also with a 20moa Nightforce base. I added Nightforce rings and topped it off with a Vortex PST Gen II 5x25x50 with the EBR 4 reticle. I was going to try some different powder charges with IMR 4198 with the Pittman AccuMax 300's. It was 77 degrees up here in Va last Tuesday (7-4-17) when I shot my first group of 72 grains of IMR 4198 which produced a 5/8" 3 shot group. So I then shot a 73 grain charge of 4198 and got this result! The first 2 shots was in the exact same hole and the third one half mooned the other two shots. So I then thought I would see if the combination would repeat itself for consistency, and waited 3 hours before going back to the bench. I then loaded 73 grains of 4198 and the results were the same. The first two shots hit the exact same hole with the other shot pulled out slightly. Loading pressure was light (probably 8 to 10 lbs.), primers was CCI large rifle magnum. The last shot was zero.

That's good shooting. Time to stretch those shots out a bit I agree! That's the next thing I'm going to do. I'm going to try and shoot it at 600 to 1000 just to see what it can do.

Good shooting. I am not one bit surprised that 73grs of IMR 4198 shot small. It has been a proven load in my muzzleloaders for a long time no need for duplex ever.

Good shooting Tim! Any pics of the gun? I've tried to get a pic of my gun to post but it keeps on telling me it's bigger than 1MB. I need to figure out how to make the pic smaller than 1MB, when I find out I will post it.

I made a thread on Kyle's Front Porch asking this exact question.

Go to this web site and it will ask you if you want your picture resided right on the home page. If it asks for which type of posting you want? Use "Hot links for forums" By the way, that is excellent shooting but not unusual with these type of muzzle loaders and bullets...........provided the shooter can break the shot with out moving the rifle......which you accomplished! postimages.org/
