Got 100 of Dennis’s 300 gr. Fury star tip bullets to play with today. Just to make a note, the jackets on these bullets is not as soft as they should be. In our conversation, Dennis indicated that his non bonded bullets would shoot as well as the bonded version. Since I am not hunting with them and they cost a bit less, I went with the non bonded. I have subsequently found out from Dennis that in bonding the bullets it also anneals the jacket and makes it softer……….which is what I prefer. He will be sending me some bonded ones to test. What I noticed when sizing was that I had to use a much tighter setting on my sizing die to get them to seat properly. This means more spring back. Dennis assured me that the bonded version, when sized would stay put forever! So, this might explain some of my results today. I only shot the Fury’s at 100 yards My best results were obtained when I used the 60/20 –H4198/3031 duplex with a .060” veggie wad. The un-wadded and the wool wads did not perform as well. I might also note that when using the straight H-322 powder my seating became almost “hammer down” tight. A dry patch somewhat eased the seating but not as it should. It appears that bullets need to be sized a bit smaller when using 322 (at least in the amount I did)
All in all, I could not make a valid assessment of the Fury’s due to possibly the jacket and my loads so far. They appeared to do pretty well with the duplex and veggie wad so this needs further testing. I would almost bet that my Clays duplex would be just the ticket for these bullets but that testing will come on another day with the 209 gun.
I have been toting around three of Kyle’s initial 300 gr. AeroMax test bullets he had initially sent me and wanted to get rid of them. I first put two AccuMax’s down range with N-120 and re set my scope to zero. I then added 3 ½ inches (MOA) and shot a decent 2.150 300 yard group. After shots one and two I thought it would have been tighter but that third bullet wanted to go a bit wide? Conditions were great—no wind, overcast ?? I would like to blame myself but man, the dot sat nice and steady and the 2 oz. trigger broke clean?? I guess if we could shoot bug holes every time, there would be no challenge?
Keeping the scope the same and the charge the same I had four more DIS screws primed and hence the four shot group. So how did #2escape? If I knew, I would fix it!
My ES’s with Kyle’s bullets generally are much lower than with any other bullets………..I think due to the jackets sealing better.
