So yesterday I went out to check zero and try some 300 SST. The 300 SST just do not want to shoot in my rifle so I'm done messing with them. If I build another rifle I believe I will go with a faster twist and for sure a different brand barrel. At the moment I have a 1-22 it just don't seem to like 300 grain bullets maybe it's just the Hornady who knows. I cleaned my barrel before I shot yesterday and it took around 10 shots to settle in. I tried a group with 300 SST and a 4" group at 220 yards was terrible in my book. Then I shot the 250 SST at 220 and just under 1.5". D.U.N! So then I decided that I'd try to ring the gong with my last four shots at 320 yards. I already figured the adjustment at 320 yards so I dialed and shot. 45 McRem 250 SST @ 2815 fps Vortex Viper HS 4-16 Win 209 Primers 10/60 GD/4198 Cardboard wad 220 yards 320 yards ringing the gong

Looks like you have it dialed in.. The deer are in trouble when you draw down on them...
Next barrel you build on,, I would recommend a 1-20 twist.. It seems to stablize the 325 MH pretty good so it should do well with the 300 SST...
Good shooting,,

Hank that's exactly what I was thinking either 1-18" or 1-20" I also think a little longer barrel would help. Mine is 25" long figured 27" would be better maybe more in my mind than actual but that's kinda where I'm at.
Next time I video the gong I'll video on 20x instead of 40x get more of a vapor trail it seems to be more cool than the hitting of the gong. I'll also try my steel disk gong instead maybe get some swinging action. Instead of a thud.
