I read the regs. in the newbook this year and did not see any other exclusions than the .40 cal min. and must not load from the breech.... In the past I have read restrictions on propellant and it not being a nitro-cellulose based ..which is smokeless and blackhorn209..... I am going to double check with Tallahassee next week to make sure it is so,but if so I will be able to use my hotrods during the ml seasons...I have some decent stock .45's I've been shooting 777 with and I missed a split second encounter last year with....Anyway, its good news for me and my very few smokeless brothers in Fla......

sounds like there should be some wild game in your freezer this year. I live in a county that doesn't allow rifle hunting, but luckily no restrictions on muzzleloader propellants. I believe that VA has a .40 caliber restriction when using sabot, but it says bullet size has to be greater than .38. They do allow dog hunting so the muzzleloader guys only get 2 weeks before the dog start running. Usually after the dogs start running the deer habits really change and almost impossible to pattern. I still muzzleloader hunt from Nov. to Jan. I usually only go with the dog hunter once or twice a year, but always keep my muzzleloader for the long range capability.
Good luck this year SML.

After speaking with a Florida Wildlife Commission officer today,it is confirmed that we are officially smokeless...I would hold a party ,but I would be the only one there,lol....The smokeless game is still in its infancy stage nationwide, but I love it and am glad I started learning about it a few years ago by the new friends I have made that are also enthusiasts and I am eager to see what new advancements will come in the future....

Good luck. When does your deer season start? Early season is dec 5-7 on public land ....Its the late season that I like in late feb 15-28 when our deer in nw fla have a second rut or when the does that are not bred in jan come back into estrous ....Less hunters in the woods,no dogs, less browse, cooler weather,etc....It all comes into play Imo....

Guess I am the most Southern SPML hunter, starts in October in South Florida. Got two on the hit list now.

That's great that they are allowing smokeless. It goes against the grain of what's typically happening. Everyone else can refer to Florida as a state doing it right.

Yep ,it was the last thing I would have expected. I'm looking into going to Osceola WMA in October.....that's when the rut is going on there...

Good luck SML. Here in VA it's 45 minimum bore and 38 minimum bullet diameter. Cooling off so I'm ready to shoot up some powder. New build will be BH209 gun as it still has original remmy 45 barrel. Found several bullets fit good so it'll be sabotless! Nothing like a big 300 gr. FN .45 cal honking along at 2200 to flatten deer. I can't see very far in the cover here so you know they will be close. 10 ga
