Here is a SPML I finished recently.. This one was a little bit out of the ordinary because it was built on a Savage action.. I don't do many builds on the Savage action but this one was even a little more from ordinary as it is the right bolt left port target action. The ejection ports on the Savage actions are on the small side and needing a little extra room I machined the port so it was big enough for me to get my fingers in so I could insert and remove the LRMP modules.
The left load, right bolt allows you to prime with your left hand and operate the bolt with your right hand.. Not a big advantage for us right handed guys but for a lefty it might help out priming it in the field.
Using this action for a center fire target rifle build allows you to catch your brass on the left and put it back in your ammo box and not have to pick it up off the ground.
For all of you guys that was at the fall shoot, you probably saw this rifle there.. My plan was to sight it in and test fire it that weekend but I was too busy and that didn't happen. For the rest of you guys, here is a picture of the finished rifle. It has an H.S. Precision stock, custom painted with Toxic Waste Green and Black. Brux barrel, muzzle brake and was ordered with a ram rod and barrel band. It is shown in the picture with the muzzle brake removed and the thread protector in place. The scope in the picture was not part of the package. I mounted it for test firing purposes only.. The Nightforce picatinny rail was included..
I never got to shoot this rifle personally but shipped it to the customer so he could get it sighted in and ready for a hunt.. He mounted a Nightforce 5.5-22x56 and away he went.. On his first day at the range shooting the 270 grain Emax smoothed sized, he was able to produce this group.. Not to bad for the first day out..
