I just finished up a 308 Winchester for a customer that is going to shoot this rifle at his local club. Distance will be 200 yards and they shoot F-Class rules. I don't know all those rules but he said the rifle had to weigh less that 18.1 pounds as it is shot and they use a bi-pod for the front rest. I chambered it for the 308 Winchester with .168 free bore so he can load the heavy bullets out farther and utilize all his cartridge capacity. The rifle is built on an old Remington 700 long action that I blueprinted and it has a Bartlein barrel 1-10 twist finished at 27 inches. It has the factory bottom metal and box magazine and the Jewell trigger is set at 2 ounces.

To a wood lover like me, that is some beautiful eye candy.
Was it built on LA for increased case length capacity (in the magazine)?

Yes It was built on the long action so the 308 could be loaded long using the 190 and 200 grain range bullets. This rifle was a re-build, It was a 30-06 when I got it. The stock is used and the action is will used. I blueprinted the action, installed the new barrel and cerakoted the action in a Tactical Grey. Quick and easy........

Can I have one? How much with a donor action? Would like .308 Win. I have a Model 700 .243 Varmint with a lami stock. Would love a .308 Win. Am unsure if I should hold out for a good find or just build a rifle? Would love to keep it under 8 lbs with a Std 3 x 9 Leupold scope. Medium contour barrel...no spaghetti noodles...but not a varmint. 22-24" just right. Prefer wood...doesn't have to be lami.
What are my options having the .243 action? What is a ball park price on a custom build for an average hunter who wants great a rifle capable of target accuracy in these specs that will never kill deer over 200-250 yds but dream of a long range target sporter?

You can build a custom .308 for $2000 or less on a .243 donor. Just depends on how lean you want to go. And if you want to shoot the heavies it'll still work. I shoot 190gn and 208gn bullets out of mine for some stuff. Even if you never shot a deer past 250yds you'll enjoy the gun.
That said, I'm pretty sold on the 6.5 Creed. Ammo cost is the same or less than 308, it's faster and has better BC bullets, kicks less, and all that I have shot were good to stellar. What's not to like.

I like my 30 cal's but my next build will be a 6.5 Creed. I built one for a friend and he killed a doe last year at 950 yards. He swears by that cartridge.

I'm working with a pair of Krieger barrels in 6.5 Creed and so far they are awesome. I still shoot .308 in matches that require but that's it now that I have these.

Besides recoil, What is the advantage over a .308? What about a .260 Rem?

Less drop, less drift, and ammo that's $2 cheaper per box. The .260 Rem is a ballistic twin when factory loaded. There aren't many factory match loads but you can get better components like brass from Lapua. I know quite a few guys still shooting the .260 in PRS.

Sweet looking 308. Love my creedmoor, shot a couple deer last year Over 300 yards with it and they didn't move. I have a 308 but not really fond of the caliber when there are other choices that i prefer.

The Creedore has a sharper shoulder and should improve case stretch when reloading. I think 20* vs. 30*. That probably helps with increasing the case capacity somewhat in relation to the .308 which is a little bigger. I don't own one but two of the guys I shoot with do and really like them. They are a little short on case capacity with the 140 gr. bullets for 1K benchrest work hence the 6.5 x 284.

There are lots of dudes shooting the 140gn bullet in the Creed in my discipline. It's easy more popular than a 123gn bullet. That 140gn gets to 1000yds fine and gives a better signature on steel. I think one of the reasons guys have moved away from that bigger round is barrel life. We shot higher count strings than you and guns get hot. You can kill a fast 6.5mm in a year as a practical shooter where a gun under 2800fps lasts longer.

Going to have to put mine on paper at 1k now to see how it does. I typically use my 6.5-284 at 1k and beyond. But I have banged steel with my 308 and creedmoor with 143g eld and 140's at 1k for fun.

First day is 300 500 and 600 yds. I cleaned the first relay at 300 yards with a 200 13x. Second day was 3 times 600. I won 3rd place overall score masterclass with the rifle. Good job Jeff.

Jeff, excellent work! real nice looking rifle.. I really like the rifle. As I can hunt deer with 30 caliber rifle this year, I can magazine load my 308 custom length bullets in the long action.
