Tired of wimpy muzzle loaders that can barely make a hole in a deer. Lost some good ones in the thorns due to no blood trail. Just bought a new 700 Haskins, hopefully will get it this week. gonna do some Hankins head shots. lol

Welcome, you want to see holes in deer. Load that hankins up with a 275BE. You can reach in and gut a deer with no knife.

Thats what I want.......I shot nine deer with a muzzle loader or a 45/70 last year and one left a little blood trail the others were tough to find.

No need to worry about head shots. Pretty hard to run far with a 3-10" hole on the backside of a ribcage. You may be able to follow an organ trail vs a blood trail. Welcome, enjoy and wish you the best.

Actually, I have been to Presque Isle when I was a young teenager. My brother-in-law was in the Air Force up there. My sister and him had an apartment in Presque Isle. My parents and I went up there several time to visit. Lots of potatoes! You on the PD up there or a State Trooper? I retired from a 100 man department in NJ with 28 years.

Hey Chief,
Another former LEO (Sheriff's Deputy) here. I hunted out of The Driftwood Lodge just south of you in Patten, ME. back in the early '80's. A fella named Harold Schmidt used to own it and run the Guide service back then. He always Advertised the camp in the back of hunting & fishing magazines, Field And Stream, Sports Afield, Outdoor Life etc.. At the time, he was reportedly the only modern day man in Maine (may have even been the U.S. IIRC) to have ever killed a Bear with a Spear. He was quite a character.
Sadly, seems I read something of his passing some years back.
