This is probably an easy question for all the guys loading the smokeless muzzleloaders but I'm learning as I go. My question has to do with light powder charges for low recoil shooting. What is considered to light of a load . I got great advise from Dennis about my powder columb and I know I have to make sure my bullet is high enough into my barrel. I'm shooting 43 grn. imr 4227 and 275 gr bullet .I'd like to tame it down even more. How far can I drop the powder charge if I follow the advise from Dennis?

That depends on your measured chamber. Every powder is different. Best way to lighten the recoil is lighten the bullet.

Is 43 gr. of IMR 4227 powder the minimum amount that fills your powder chamber? You could drop down to a lower bullet weight.

A 225 Accumax .402 in a light blue harvester in front of mid 50s 4198 should do the trick.

If your happy with the guns performance, then I change or add a few thing to help tame felt recoil. Change out the factory muzzle break to one of Jeff’s tactical muzzle break. Added weight to the forearm and butt stock and put a big fat heavy scope on top of it. Change out the factory recoil pad to a Kick-Eez grind to fit 1 3/8” magnum recoil pad.

Sounds great 👍, I'll look into the kick ez recoil pad . Thanks for the advise.

You may want to add that your gun does not have a powder chamber for safety reasons.

A slip on recoil pad has worked wonders with recoil, I purchased two a large and medinum. I was working on a couple CVA blue/black 45 cal ML with no brake, 65 grains 4198 275 pittman. It was a thumper!!! the pads worked great.... You may have to adjust eye relief on scope,,,

Hanks Precision Gun Parts sell a direct replacement for the ASG plug so that you can run the DIS ignition system modules in your rifle that was built using the ASG Gen2 plug system. The plug is long than the standard HIS plug and takes up more area of the original 45/70 case/powder chamber.
