I currently shoot a savage ml-2 with a 250 grain xtp with 43.5 grains of 4759 black mmp sabot I have never shot over 100 yards where I hunt in the woods most are closer shots but I've been curious as to what the drop would be at 400 yards or less I usually sight in an inch high at 100 I am not sure of my velocity I know from what I've read the drop will be alot because of the low bc of the xtp has anyone here tested their savage at long range

I’m in a deer blind and don’t have enough signal to post an image. But, with a BC of 0.146, scope height of 1.5, std day, 2300’/sec and sighted in @ 1” hi @ 100 yards, here are the results. 150 - -1.6” KI - 1324 200 - -7.9” 250 - -19” 300 - -36”. KI - 635 350 - -61” 400 - -95” KI - 480 450 - -139” 500 - -194” Back home now. ——>

If you were to shoot a 45 cal AeroMax in a HPH24 or other comparatively thin sabot with 60g VV120 or other powder that could get it up to 2500-2600’/sec and sight it in at 1.1” @ 100 yards could reach out there a long way. Not necessairly 400 yards, but quite a ways. If you were interested in really reaching out there, you’d like to have it sighted in where it would go likely 2 1/2 -3” above the crosshair before starting dowm - like sighting in at somewherebetween 200 and 250. Look at what a greatly increased BC and going a little faster can do!

If the accuracy is there, then a 2550’/sec load with a 300g AeroMax could truly be a viable 300-350 yard bullet out of the 10ML2. Bearing surface might be low enough that an AccuMax Might be a better choice (actually likely ) because of having more bearing surface.

Good thoughts on using the Pittmans, but will the twist rate of the stock 10ML stabilize the 300 gr Aeromax?

I killed a few deer around 300yd, and maybe 315yd iirc with the 300gr Barnes Original back in the day. Very accurate without wind, so the Accumax would only be that much better! The 325 Hdy FTX killed a bunch as well. Really a sleeper bullet that handled all velocity ranges for me, max 2,550fps. Killed on both ends though in the 50cal and no brake. I kinda miss the good ole days. Lol

Google “Bullet drop calculator”. I picked Hornady.
I had 5 10 ML/ML2 test rifles for working on loads, checking accuracy, temp sensitivity of powders, working on load limits, various available bullets, etc. 1,000s of shots, often a few hundred a week. Got my 40 cal in either 2001 or 2002 then 3 45s. Have never shot a 50 cal since😊 I’m not missing the 50 cals, but they worked and bet they’ll work even better with modern, hi BC’d bullets.

Any idea what the BC is for the 285/.50 fury with the plastic tip?
