I have a savage ml-2 with a factory plug that uses vent liners thinking about replacing it with Jeff's savage bushing plug in his video he mentions fitting the 209 primer to the breech plug and setting the headspace my question is do I just remove the OEM plug and screw the new plug in my barrel or do I have to remove the barrel from the action I have a barrel vise and barrel nut wrench if needed

Fitting the primer to the bp primer pocket is a matter of polishing the pocket if the primer you’re using is too tight. Setting headspace you will have to loosen the barrel nut and screw the barrel in or out depending on what you need for headspace.

Could one have a bushing added to his old plug and would the "headspace" still be the same?

I almost wrote he might get lucky and not have to adjust headspace but I doubt it. One could make a adjustable headspace breech plug but I don’t think hanks is that way and there’s really no need for it because it’s easy with the barrel nut gun.

It just expanded on the sides of the primer to seal things up. I think hanks has the the rim but I’m not sure. If it does headspace Is critical and a better idea.
