Hi all,
I am new to smokeless muzzleloaders. I am receiving my new smokeless from Shultz Precision shortly. I was wondering if anyone had any suggested loads and muzzle velocities for 275 Pittman Accumax and IMR 4198. This will be primarily used for deer hunting and shots will be mainly 200-300 yds with occasional opportunities for longer shots. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I can't speak to your specific muzzleloader. I've got a .45 cal TC Encore build from Jeff. It shoots well with 65 gr of 4198 and pittman 275 accurmax at 2560 fps. Accurate and devastating if you hit bone. Not sure if this is any help, but it give you a ballpark.
I got my load suggested by Jeff. I'm not experienced enough to try to push things at all. I'd suggest contacting your builder for his recommendation. He knows the limits of your gun. Safety first.

Welcome to the forum first of all. The guys will want to know your barrel dimensions such as shank diameter, shank length, bolt, break action, ignition type, caliber (40 or 45) ect. The more details you give the better we can advise you.
For example I shoot Rem 700 .45 modified Sendero shank is 1.25"x5", HIS, 26" barrel. I like the 303 Aeromax HC with the following powder and charge weights. These examples are max safe loads in my gun only.
VV N120 75gr 303HC Velocity avg 2758 .25"CTC Reloader10x 88gr 303HC Velocity avg 2936 .62CTC IMR 3031 95gr 303 HC Velocity avg 2873 .50CTC
All groups are from a 100yds and velocity is in fps. As you can see all these loads are more than accurate for deer hunting and pack a punch on game. They are comfortable to shoot with a muzzle break and fine without for hunting if you choose depending on tolerance. My go to hunting load right now is the 10x load. It offers the best velocity and only drops 8.25 MOA at 500 yds with a 200 yard zero. Proceed with caution and enjoy.

Assuming your gun is built with the same dimensions as mine, look at above post for details. A load of IMR4198 78GR and a 275gr bullet will produce an average of 3016fps in my SML. You should be aware that these guns at those speeds are not deer friendly. If you plan to shoot your SML at speeds of 2800fps or faster you should consider switching to the Pittman 278 Accumax Hardcore or 303 Aeromax Hardcore bullets. These bullets will be better suited for high velocity impacts at shorter ranges.
I also shoot a CVA Scout conversion that will produce an average speed of 2620fps using 65gr of IMR4198 and a 275gr Accumax. At this speed I was happy with the performance of that bullet on a small Doe this Fall at 95 yds. This is probaly the top end muzzle velocity with the non hardcore bullets for me. Once into the 2700+fps range should be looking to switch to a hardcore bullet. At 2800+fps you should definitely switch to the hardcore bullets.

I would expect new shooters would want to go to the range and shoot their load at the various yardages so they know for a fact, what its drop would be? Part of this game is shooting your load from your rifle and establishing your own data!
