Richard. I got your barrel and your check for the Kentucky Challenge. Thank you very much.
Anyone else have a barrel they can send in to me for destruction. Also I would like to have some loading ideas as to what you think will blow the barrels. 45 caliber and 50 caliber barrels will be used in the test.
Thanks Jeff.

I don't care what you load for powder but I would like to see you set a 3/4" or even 1" mild steel plate out about 10 yards in front of the barrel to see if you can pop a cork out of it. I realize steel is spendy but perhaps you have a piece lying around? If not steel at least make use of the business end and point that thing at something interesting.
If you want a reasonable scenario on a start charge double the powder load. It seems like that might be a reasonable "accidental" loading scenario even though I hope nobody does this in real life.

Might take more than a double powder load.... I shot 140 gns of H4198 with a 275BE...3700fps..This was with a PacNor Sendero contour, savage plug with a bushing..... Luckily there was no damage.... Believe me, it wasn't intentional. Probably take a double bullet load to get a major barrel rupture.

I like the idea of a typical load...............loaded twice! 78 gr. IMR 4198 + a 275 bullet........then opps? Load another 78 gr. and another bullet. I don't think the second charge would ignite since it is probably shielded by the first bullet but now you would have the initial charge pushing a 275 gr. bullet + 78 gr. of powder + another 275 gr bullet for a total of 528 gr. weight. A true double charge!

Add a ramrod to Richard's combo and you would really have an overcharge

I read and old article to properly proof a Muzzleloader you need to double charge weight and projectile weight. This was proofing a blackpowder Muzzleloader. Wow

If you look at the Williams-burg gunsmith video, he uses a QUADRUPLE charge of black powder to proof the barrel he just forged. If it did not blow up, then he proceeds to build the rest of the rifle.

I would like to see a real world test on barrels. As in you forgot it was loaded and load it again. We are looking for answers to why some people blow up barrels, not trying to kill jeff.
