How do you blow up a barrel safely? Have you done this before? Just curious how you go about this so nobody gets hurt.
Stand way way far away, and pull the trigger with a string......

I agree but behind a bullet proof shield would be a good idea too.

A piece of steel culvert imo would work well....But still stay the hell away..... I've got an old .50 stock ss Remingtonml barrel that is collecting dust....I'll send it up for you to see how a stock barrel compares with a custom....There has been some debate about how well a Remington 700ml barrel steel holds up ......

Jon raised an interesting point. If the barrel is junk because of a bulge, that barrel has already been stressed. Not to the coming apart stress but I would think with the prior damage the pressure to have it completely come apart would not be reduced and not quite an equal comparison to an undamaged barrel. Just saying . Good information could be gained none the less. Differences in true double loads (powder and a second bullet) as compared to the wrong powder (burn rate) and amount. If you get enough barrels there will be testing a plenty. Awaiting the results especially for me between blued and stainless. It appears for whatever reason the SS were the larger number.

I have a 45 cal 700ml barrel with a loose spot in it. Will these barrels fit a 700 action for testing

Hank...........my barrel has no bulge and it is already packed up and sitting on the front seat of my truck to go to the post office tomorrow so Johnny will have to get his barrel up to you on his own. Let me know when you get it because the Kentucky Challenge check in in the package also.

Brownell's has Shilen barrels pretty cheap from time to time. They had some 45's for $158.00 a while back. 10 bucks apiece between 15 or 20 guys and we got a test a barrel to blow up

This is going to be neat to see, and I am with Mindy on this one. I know someone who double loaded their smokeless muzzleloader. He said when he pulled the trigger the end of the stock disappeared, and he said he didn't know what happened. He said the guy on the bench beside him was jumping up and down, the splinters from the stock hit him in the back. No real injuries to speak of. He keeps the barrel in his shop to show people. The barrel looks very similar to one that Jeff posted previously.
He said no joking around anymore while shooting.

A barrel with some "standard" fluting would be nice to add to the mix.

This would be a good video to watch at the Challenge, we would just need a TV and a way to power it.

Does anyone have a 45 caliber barrel that they consider to be junk? If so I would like to blow it up!!!!! Too bad you don't want 10MLII .50 take off factory barrels. You could run dozens, if not hundreds of tests!
