Has anyone ever tried anything from Tract Optics? I was looking at the VX3-HD but for $100 less the Tract Tekoa seems like a potential option.

my choice huskemaw ive run my ballistics thru there ballistics charts and they r spot on My friend uses a Huskemaw on his Best-of-the-West custom 300PRC. He likes the scope very much for what is does. This brand name is very rare in my experience and I've never seen or heard of one being used on a sml. Do you have your Huskemaw mounted on a sml? Is this brand known for being tough? Is this a Japan made scope? Guess I can do an easy google search.

By the way, pertinent to the original topic, on my Hankins converted CVA Apex, my Leupold VX-III 4.5-14x40 (1" tube) has withstood approximately 400 loads of IMR4198 ranging from 58 grains to 65 grains behind a Hornady 250 FTX without muzzle-break. The 65 grain loads were driving my scope forward in the rings so I bought a Hankins rail and rings and will upgrade scopes to a Leupold VX6 3-18x50 (30mm tube). I'll let everyone know how things work out after a couple hundred shots down the barrel.

Only one failure for me, a Nikon. They took care of and fixed it right up, but I could no longer trust it so it found a new owner, who is aware of it’s history. Less than 20 shots on a heavy bolt gun before it failed.
Never an issue with Minox, Vortex, Sightron, or Weaver. The Minox and Weaver both spent a lot of time on the Scout when I had it. The Weaver Super Slam is now on a lighter weight bolt gun and the Minox is on the grandson’s 350 Legend, never an issue with either.

I bought a Tract Toric when they first came out, very good glass, good reticle but the adjustments were spotty. Resides on a Browning T Bolt 22 now and holds zero well.
I know guys that have bought the newer models and like them a lot.

Leica Amplus 6 2.5-15x 50mm Riflescope Illuminated L-4a BDC 50310
How are the Leica scopes? In particular, this one?
Any experiences with the Vortex Razor 3x15 HD LH in either 42 or 50 mm?

Have never owned a Leica scope but have their binoculars and range finder, excellent glass and binos are as tough as nails. Have owned both about 20 years and will repeat if I live long enough. I have no doubt their scope would be top tier in the optical realm but as for mechanics?
The Razor would no doubt be an excellent scope (Japanese manufactured) but I have no dealings with that particular model, I wouldn't be afraid to take the plunge but it's not my money?

Bill, I took the plunge. Now, I’m just wanting validation or affirmation. I am very impressed with it. I wanted light and good and didn’t want it to overwhelm my ultralight. It does seem to be everything I want. The lighted reticle is not up to most higher level scopes’ standards. But, even in virtual darkness, it doesn’t wash out the picture.
Thanks.

I have a good friend that has an older model blue diamond huskemah on a lightweight .338 shooting 300 grain bullets without a brake -recoil is brutal. It has a yardage marked turret- when tested for click value it was .36” so mil clicks. Glass is really good. It’s 1 of his favorite scopes. I’ve shot it several (painful) times and I believe it could handle the recoil of a muzzleloader. A few comp shooters I know used loaners from huskemah on past huskemah challenges (annual events) and we’re pleased with tracking and glass quality. If a good deal was presented -I’d buy one- as long as it had non yardage dial up turrets (normal moa or mil) but that’s just my preference. You can get them (turrets) any way you want them so that’s a plus if you like yardage marks or hash marks.

I have 2 Razor HD LHT 3-15x42 and I like them. Good glass and I like everything about the scope. It has an illuminated dot instead of crosshairs. I have not shot the rifles these scopes are on a lot but so far everything is good.

I just bought a CVA Scout from Jeff. I know a few on here are not Leupold fans but I’ve always had good luck with them. I have a VX5HD 3-15x44 with 30mm tube and a VX3HD 3.5-10x50 with 1” tube. Was planning to use the 30mm tube… just thinking a heavier scope with more surface area on the rings would be better for this gun. Everyone agree or think the lighter scope would be better? I will probably be shooting max loads or close to max loads of 4198 and a 278 grain AccuMax HC.

Lighter will hold up longer to the stress on the scope and rings. Lighter will hold up better to recoil. JMO It also depends on how well both scopes are made -and the rings.
A muzzle brake will increase the life of the scope and the rings -substantially.

I still have my first "quality" scope and that being a Zeiss Conquest 3x9x40...it has been on 4... 12 gauge slug guns and 2 .50 cal muzzleloader and 3...45 cal muzzleloaders...no brakes on any of them shooting heavy powder charges behind mainly 300 grain projectiles...all bolt guns with the exception of the Tar-Hunt DSG...it currently resides on a Savage 220 slug gun and tracks perfectly! If heavy recoil should have destroyed a scope I would have thought that I would have blown the guts out of this one...lol..I am of the opinion as well that lighter is better!

I know guys with the VX-5s on these guns and they like them, the IIIs I have not had good luck with on these guns. Run it til it dies and then send it back? they do have a good warranty but if I were depending on one of the 2 it would be the VX-5 just from what I know of them, JMO.
scopes with a side focus have many more internal parts and thus must be substantially more robust on the inside but the VX-IIIs I have killed were the 3.5x10x50s with no side focus.
I still have some but they reside on smaller CF guns.
I agree with ballistic, a good brake will make a scopes life easier, will make most a better shooter too.

I have two NF benchrest scopes. A 8x32 and a 12x42. Between the two of them they have experienced in excess of 10,000 heavy (300, 325&350 gr bullets) loads. Most well over 2900 fps with nary a hic-cup!

Thanks. I was thinking the VX-5 would be a tougher scope. I think it would also still be considered relatively light at 19.7 ounces. I do plan to use a muzzle brake so that should help too.
