Pondering pulling the trigger on one of these as they are running a sale until January 1, what’re everyone’s thoughts on this “new style” Sightron?
Thanks in advance!

Have had 2 and both performed well, sold the last one on the gun but will likely get another, good glass, tracks well, illumination works good, nothing not to like with my use so far.

I actually had one of the new PLR’s go south on me. Had it mounted on a barrel-nut setup (Rem 700). I was really shocked when the scope inputs didn’t match the target results….for example, making a half minute windage correction left and elevation would drop by nearly 2 minutes. This sort of thing started happening after 68 shots. Was the first Sightron scope I’ve ever had go south on me and I have had A LOT of them. I still think Sightron scopes are great, but I’ve since gone to Nightforce scopes for SML applications and I won’t be looking back.

One of my friends has the newer designed PLR scope. It’s first focal plane and is an improvement with the zero stop design. The older versions can be upgraded for around $250. The older version has a small 1/4” crush washer to hold the turrets (from the top) in place. If you look closely -Sightron turrets are held in place with 1 screw on the top. I have had failures (turret coming loose and freewheeling) with the crush washer design - but I’m hard on equipment. The newer design you are looking at has a larger disk to support the turret- which looks like a big and needed improvement. There aren’t any splines on the caps or posts which would have completely eliminated any chances of slippage (sightron are you listening ?) Another option would have been 3 screws like others have on the sides for additional support. Sightron has the new SV111 series scope out and it has the 3 side screws on the turrets which is a big improvement -JMO. If you are a run and gun competitor or pack miles into country with the gun in a pack - you could experience turrets loosening one day - old design. If you are walking short distances to blinds - you likely will never have my issues. Again I’m harder on equipment than most - but have sent my Sightrons in a few times to have the crush washer and cap replaced (warranty and great customer service). They have held up really well to heavy recoil ( except turrets loosening) and thousands of shots I’ve never had an issue with my Sightrons not tracking perfectly and the glass has been on par with higher priced optics. I love the reticle with the small dot in the center. My friend has had his PLR for close to a year. It’s on a lightweight .45 muzzy that has some kick. He shoots it often and hasn’t had the turrets come loose so the issues I had might be resolved.
