Lots of people post pics of animals killed on private land too. Congrats on your hunt tho.

Guys,,, Just remember,, each of us reads and comprehends in different ways, What a group of teenagers say to each other and thinks it's cool, a bunch of old men will think it's foolish and dis-respectful. Also geographical location will have effects on how written words are understood.. How people talk in California is completely different as to how people would talk in southern Kentucky...
No offence was meant, I'm sure, but after a long hard week of hunting and top that off with 2 days of hard driving, one is probably just a little bit on edge,,,
We are like one great big family,,, It's easy to get bent out of shape, but it's also easy to get straightened back out....
That's a great looking elk and lots of good eating as well,,,, Congratulations... Are you getting the head mounted.... ?

that is a good looking set of antlers there. I am about 12 months away from an elk hunt we scheduled for next October. I just wish it was this October. Congrats.
All of your meat fit in that 1 cooler? That is something I was concerned about, I was thinking about buying a cheap chest freezer for the trip home. It is 2 of us going, and we also will have mule deer tags. A cheap chest freezer is about $200, and you can spend more than that on a large cooler.
The guy I am going with his dad is a butcher, and he grew up working there. He said he can get rid of any unneeded parts in a hurry.

Tired absolutely 2 days of drivin .i apoligize if i came off alittle brash . We traveled as lite as possible no trailer pullin a trailer up the mountain is doable but ruff we stay in a cowboy log cabin built in the fifties for roundin up cattle pretty cool and very nostalgic there r names on the walls with there kills from the 50's pretty cool. we take coolers up with block ice .... chunk after quartering out when we get into town we line the cooler with dry ice and head for home. Hank im not gettin the head mounted its about a 1500 pill and i just dont have anywhere to hang in my house ill have a friend of mine do a European type thing. Again my apologies for the bark i had cows bark at me on the hunt too.

Nice rack. Elk is some of the best wild meat around and you've got a load. I was chowing down on elk sausage while training in the North Georgia mountains a couple of weeks ago. One of the guys on the team is from Wyoming and had packed in two pounds of it.

And as a follow up, how did you like the Helix head?

Post by speedrackin on Sept 27, 2015 18:32:52 GMT -5
i hit this bull at 30 yrds quartered away . the helix disappared in behind the left shoulder he cameout of the water hole on three legs slowly went away on three dropped over at 87 yrds . when deboning i found the helix in his right shoulder and about 4 in of shaft the helix entered like a 10 gauge hole exited the same i should just run it thru the sharpener and put it back in my quiver . also i mite add that i shoot easton da torch carbons with the 75 grn brass insert for more forward weight. Over all the helix is an awsome broad head

Yeah, single bevel is the way to go. I shoot them with Piledriver 250's for a total weight of 455.4gn from my 62# longbow.
