Been browsing and researching for a while and figured it was time to join, before pulling the trigger on a smokeless musket. Debating between the cva scout 45-70 conversion, or converting my old model 700 muzzleloder into smokeless. Would like something capable of shooting 500 yards. Thanks for the help in advance!

Hands down a break action would be my reconciliation. It will get you in “the game” much cheaper. You will want to spend the savings on glass. I have been impressed with how they can throw 325gr down range. I have only shot to 400 but would have full confidence at 500 if and when I get to a range with that distance.
