So I shot some today. The Barnes 250 tmz, the Parker 250 be, and the fury 275... the fury did indeed shoot low for me as did the Barnes. Both were about a half mil low and the fury was about 2 tenths of mil right...I just used my 66gr charge I used for my pittmans. I think if I fudged with the powder charge they will shoot well, but at 66gr they were about moa. The Barnes 250gr tmz had all 3 touching and is a viable alternative with very promising results. Are you annealing, knurling or sizing the Barnes? How does it fit in your barrel?

I smooth sized them with the die set for the 275 pittman. They were slightly looser than ideal, but shot very well. I think, if the die was set for them, it would do better. I did this without a wad. BTW, these are the boattail 250s.

Did the Furry and Accumax slide down barrel with same force? AM Hardcore is going to give best chance for exit. I think Joel is touching on the crux of the matter. Bullet fit is everything with smokeless bullet to bore shooting. .0000 is everything and for consistent results there must be the just right fit. Not saying that a too tight bullet wont give good results but they are no fun seating in the field. I read a recent post by Hillbill offering sage advice on determining proper fit on a clean barrel and it works great. Another "little" trick that Kyle let me in on was running a nylon bristle brush down the bore after a shooting session. He advised me to remove the brush after it exits the bore and not pull it back across the crown. Evidently the burnt powder can and does change bullet fit after being stored a while. I know all this is preaching to the choir regarding the regulars here but there are lots of new shooters of smokeless that may benefit.

Now that I’ve gone exclusively to full sizing 40 cal, I’ve found this applies even more.

I use the 250 grain fury, wool wad, 60 grains h4198 in my scout conversion. I've only had the gun 2 season, but did kill 6 deer, from about 50 yards to a ranged 309. I've always had an exit with great " short "blood trails. Good internal damage without blowing half the deer away. If I do my part 1 ratty hole at 100 yards.
