The deer are all but completely nocturnal at this point, and this WAS NOT the buck I had on my “hit list”, but I’ll take him…..it happens sometimes 🤷♂️. The shot he presented was just too good to pass up. At last light and 165 yards he was facing me and he put his head down to inspect the ground (there was a doe nearby) and I hit him right at the base of his neck/shoulder blade junction……..brought him down in a heap! DRT! Load used was the same as previous….278gr Pittman Accumax Hard Core traveling just north of 3,000 fps (79.3 gr IMR 4198). Congratulations

I’m not sure if it the way the picture was taken or your buck just has big body but it looks like it has a huge body on it.

It was a very large bodied buck actually. Even my wife said so and she really doesn’t even know the difference…..but she recognized that this time for obvious reasons. He just wasn’t the one I thought he was “up top.” DANG those “last light” shots!!! 😂🤣

This guy took a 300 grain Pittman "sleeping pill" just before 11:00 this morning. I don't think he'll be waking up from his "nap" anytime soon. Nighty night!

Very nice buck!
Our IN gun season has ended. I took 3 does, 2 with a 7-08 Encore, 1 with 243 Ruger American, and missed a really wide buck with same 243. Found some limbs hanging down in the shooting lane we didnt know about. My boy also took a doe in the youth season, and a nice doe in a snowstorm in our gun season with same 243.
I got my trusty Savage 10ml-2 and Rem 700ml shot and confirmed for our Saturday muzzy opener. Both wear PacNor 45 barrels and lit with 209's still. Barnes bx195/hlb sabot in the Sav, and 275MH in the Rem.
I'll miss most of the weekend hunting due to early family and work Christmas parties, but might get to hunt Sun pm. Still got a doe tag in one county, and an either/or mz tag.

smokelesskNow, THAT’s a dandy buck right there! The “crab claws” at the end of both main beams are cool! Congratulations. 👍 Thanks! I almost let him walk. First saw him broadside at 60 yards, standing there looking right at me. Didn't 100% identify him as a shooter. He moved a bit then stopped with his head behind a tree. That was my chance to get on the gun. I had a clear shot at his chest, held the cross hairs right behind his shoulder thinking "do I squeeze or not squeeze?" I really didn't know what size rack he had. This went on for a couple minutes as he stood there at 60 yards. Then he moved again, I could see his rack then. He was about to go out of sight into the brush. A going away shot, chest was not an option. Held just below the head on his spine. He went down and didn't twitch a muscle. 55 yards, the 300 grain Aeromax is still in his neck, no exit.
