Well just joined up so glad to see you guys and looking forward to learning more about powders that work best for our SML's.
Got Encore Hankins Barrel 27" with HIS and muzzlebrake. Put on my frame and also decided to get an in-stock stock from him also and put it together and love it. New scope i had sitting in my closet for awhile till i had something to put it on. SWFA SS HD 5X20 FFP. Great scope.
HMM WAS GOING TO POST SOME PICTURES BUT DON'T see an attachment hmm. Oh well its beautiful. I also got a buch of stuff from Jeff to make my shooting enjoyable. After my initial session i get out the following day as my first day i only got to shoot 5 shots working to just get on paper then had to run. So next day only shot 4 shots this time. 1st shot close to bullseye so make last adjustments. Then 3 shots in 1 hole. Seriously 1 hole. Not a big hole but darn in exactly same hole.its definitely in the .1's max .2's.
Jeff thank you sir.
Recipe....
Federal 215 IMR4198 64 grains Pittman 278 accumax bullet. NO wad Not sure of speed but this is my woods gun up to about 300 yards. My other one being built will be for long range shots when it gets here. Can't wait.

Congratulations on your new rifle. Most all of these muzzleloaders will flat out shoot. The big factor is the shooter himself, the bullet to barrel fit and the charge.

I have a hankins build on an encore frame with a similar setup. I'm pretty happy with 65 grains of 4198 with a Pittman Acumax 275 gr bullet.

For whatever the reason is when i tried 65 gr of IMR4198 i had bulged primers. 64 gr and all is great so i consider 64 gr max in my barrel. And it shoots stupid good with that load.

For pictures I utilize the website “Post Image”. It will upload whatever picture from your library that you desire to post…after it has done so scroll down and select “hotlink for forums”…and then just “paste” to whatever thread it needs to be on. Welcome to the Forum by the way. Great to see LRH members here. 👍

These guns are great. The only difference I have found in accuracy was primers. I started with Federals and have had great success. I tried some CCI due to availability and groups opened up a little and speed fell 150 to 200 fps. I have been shooting Fury 250 and 275's with 57-63gr of I4198 into one hole groups at 100 and 1.4" groups at 300. The only problem I have encountered is one time I had excessive fouling after just one or two shots. That fouling made loading nearly impossible and accuracy was to the point I couldn't even hit the ground. I don't know what corrected or caused the fouling, it just went away. May have been a super thorough cleaning. I have taken two Kansas deer and one Nebraska deer so far and all were DRT when shot. I love my SML. Mark.
