Hey All !! Thinking about doing another SML build in the not too distant future and I need some stock recommendations for this one. Looking to put this one together in a more traditional “benchrest” style, but I’d really like adjustability in the comb and length of pull. Would also like for the toe and forearm to be parallel, but I couldn’t find many options for that considering the aforementioned features that I’m looking for. What say you guys? Thanks in advance for spending my money ( buckeye68 🤣😂).

Dang, you’re up early today!🤣😂 I looked at McMillan earlier, but for some reason didn’t see those selections. That’s what I’m talking about.

I will consider it strongly. I like the McWoody. 👍

Just curious, what type of smokeless muzzleloader benchrest competition is there, where weight would be a factor? CF 600 and1,000 yard has a 17 pound light gun max and unlimited heavy gun weight.

At this time, none that I'm aware of specific to smokeless. However, smokeless is now getting more attention and at some point rules will be developed. I've heard rumor that there's the possibility of including smokeless along with F-class shooters next year. If it gets organized, there will be rules many won't like and rifle weight "as shot" will likely be one.

Worry about the rules when they are created.

Any SML match rules would be shoot specific until at some point we have a sanctioned organization which I don’t see happening very soon?
Maybe I’ll be wrong on that?

Any SML match rules would be shoot specific until at some point we have a sanctioned organization which I don’t see happening very soon? Maybe I’ll be wrong on that? There was a huge change made in leadership at the NMLRA. No need for details. The leadership now at the NMLRA have watched the membership grow once more aggs. for modern inline rifles were added. IIRC, besides the Summer Nationals and the NRA Nationals in September, there are 3 or 4 modern inline matches and attendance has grown. Realizing that, the NMLRA is looking for additional aggs. for modern inline rifles. There has been........ "talk" ....... of actually having a SML match at Friendship. That might seem crazy and extremely odd but, if it increases membership and increases attendance at the matches, it's very likely to happen. If I'm not mistaken, they had a CF match this summer... That suggested.......... If ... and its a big if, the NMLRA determines SML shooters will help the organization and sport, I'd bet a bottle of coke they would get with the directors at the NRA and then the rules would be set. I'd bet another bottle of coke that if rules are made by either organization, you can bet it'll concentrate on shooter ability. Keep on shoot'n.................

I just hope they will have an open mind to the possibility, these days there is a good bunch of us out there that would likely participate IF they have common sense rules that all can live with. Maybe it would bridge the great divide and all would participate willingly.

The stock listed above really doesn’t fit the profile that you really are looking for. Just remember the old saying, buy once and cry once. I personally would not buy something your not going to be happy with in the long run. Be patient and you’ll find what you’re looking for.

Time to get this original post back to topic at hand. 😂🤣 About time you chimed in here! Seems like I saw one of those ‘Stocky’s’ selections recently at The Challlenge, but can’t remember who had it? It wasn’t the ‘benchrest’ stock I was looking for, but didn’t look too terribly out of the realm either. Encore50a, Hank and now YOU seem to agree on the McMillan stocks so that’s probably what I’ll end up going with. Dang, they’re NOT cheap are they?!?😳

Just make sure you get a good recoil pad added to the build sheet, most bench stocks have little to no recoil pad which is definitely needed in our world.

The HS Precision on my ‘Outcast’ build worked out nicely, but this benchrest thing is a whole other “animal” entirely.
