Does anyone know if removing the muzzle brake on the CVA Scout while hunting changes the POI.

It did on mine but I can't remember how much. I don't think it was much but always safe to check . Mine actually shot tighter groups with the brake .

Thanks guys was trying to figure a good way to hunt without the brake. Looks like I got 2 choices. 1 no brake and take the recoil or 2 try out the Walkers firemax electronic earmuffs. But I will definitely try shooting it without the brake to see how it affects poi!

Can someone explain how to remove the extractor on 45/70 scout so I can get my breech plug in and out.. Remove your barrel and you will see a small pin holding the extractor. Use a punch to push the pin out just be careful,I think a small spring will come out with the extractor.

If you use a small screwdriver, you can gently move the extractor back and away enough to get the breech plug out. (without bending it) I have done it several times when I had a scout that Jeff gave me to test.

Can someone explain how to remove the extractor on 45/70 scout so I can get my breech plug in and out.. Remove the extractor by driving out the roll pin that keeps it in place. It is very easy to do. When you pull the extractor out, keep an eye on the bottom side, there is a small spring that will fly out if not careful. If you loose this spring the extractor will not work. If you bend or brake the extractor trying to get the plug out with it in place, then you also have a gun that will not work correctly. Once the extractor is removed, the breech plug will un screw (lefty/loosy, righty/tighty) using a 7/16 socket. Then if you are cleaning the rifle, clean it as you would do any other center fire rifle, but remember, these guns shoot better dirty.

Can someone explain how to remove the extractor on 45/70 scout so I can get my breech plug in and out.. There is a thread somewhere that explains how to mod the extractor so you don't have to punch the pin and have the spring fly out on you. Its basically glue the spring in the bottom of the hole in the extractor and don't put the punch pin back in. Works great for me so far!

This past week had a friend that wanted to use his gun without the BRAKE, so the point of impact was only 1/2 inch to the right with the elevation staying the same,, set at 3 inches high at 100 yards, shot dead center at 200 yards, and 6 inch low at the 300 yards dead center,,,,

Shot my CVA without the factory muzzle brake and it was about 4 inches low at 100 yards. 65 grains imr4198 250 Parker BE bullets. Needless to say recoil was not bad. I actually ordered a thumbhole stock last year and put lead weights in it and secured it with hot glue filling the buttstock the rest of the way. Gun is balanced very well since doing that. It is heavier. I did not want to adjust scope so I will be using it with muzzle brake and I purchased Walker's FireMax Electronic Earmuffs to use during the muzzleloader season. I also got a new Muzzle brake from Hank that I will be trying out next year. Not gonna change it out until after this muzzleloader season is over.
