Shot my ramrod out of my gun once, No accuracy what so ever I checked the down range ramrod launching also box. It bulged my 50 Savage barrel. I recall how violently hard the recoil was with 66 grains IMR 4198, 300 gr rem JHP, orange sabot and a ramrod. My reaction was to remember to shoulder the gun properly next time did not realize my error till I charged for next load and started bullet but could not find ramrod. Looked all over, no can find. Got cleaning rod and pushed bullet down and all of a sudden the bullet fell down barrel. That is when I understood. Most of ramrod about 85 yards down range and some of it hit the target.

The worst mistake is the same mistake twice!
Shot ramrod - ☑️ Bullet without powder - ☑️ Powder no bullet - ☑️
Fortunately nothing detrimental to me or my equipment. But with each range/hunting trip, I am capable of really making a detrimental mistake. Focus is the key to avoid distractions and detrimental mistakes!

I may have relayed this before but it may be new for some. Was on a hunt w a great friend of mine (unfortunately now deceased) a few years back. He loaded his MZL as we were talking. Afterwards I said I don't think you put powder in. After a few minutes of trying to convince him that I was not pulling his leg he decided to shoot the gun. Primer went off- no boom. He pulled the bullet and reloaded. That afternoon he shot a monster Iowa buck- absolutely beautiful deer. Doe's that count as an assist?
I forgot to put a bullet in once at the KY challenge- not dangerous but reminded me that I really need to focus and not assume.

I didn't load any powder in my Scout but loaded the poly wad and bear creek copper bullet. Put in the LRMP module and shot it with my Chrono at 25yds. Pffft and my chrono fell over. Upon inspection the bullet hit/broke one of the plastic adjustment knobs and actually started to expand as I found it on the ground without ballistic tip. Just to be sure I pulled the breech plug and nothing in there.

And the truth is, that all the witness marks in the world won't correct a lot of these problems! Some, but not all!

A feller Can concentrate on his velocity readings too much i found out .... Thinkin about 2 things at once didnt work so good . Boy did that cause a ruckus when parts of and the Chrony itself flew everywhere !!! Not even Rodney Dangerfield got that many laughs , or felt that stupid . Youre right Richard , witness mark didnt help a thing ......

Thats darn near as dumb as sitting in the shooting shanty falling asleep on straw bales inside and waking up to see a dandy down the 2 track . He was lookin right at me . So i raise my gun to shoot and never got the braked barrel stuck out the window........yea......

Good morning or Afternoon everyone The mistake I just recently did, was loaning my MZ to friend without loading it. Bout a week ago, I shot a nice Hybrid Black Tail buck was so excited I did not load it back up. Just a few days ago, my friend snuck up on a really nice 7 point or 4x3 and ONLY pulled the trigger to a primer. I feel pretty awful on this. Thanks for sharing

You didn't mess up, we mess up when we put a gun up and it's loaded, it increases the likelihood of a double load several fold. I always keep a balloon or cover on my barrel once its loaded just to be safe and also to keep the moisture out. I also have an orange scopecoat neoprene cover intended for that purpose.
I have made it a practice now to remove the bolt and look for daylight through the bushing hole just to make sure the barrel is clear.

I received my New Hankins SML barrel for my TC encore. With HIS breech plug and muzzlebrake i was ready to go.. was able to find IMR 4198 and unbelievably during my first range session i left my powder funnel in my Brake and ... well you can guess. Need new funnel now. Hope thats the worst of it.

Here’s a new one….
I maintain a couple of original Sav ML-10 for the kids or loaners. I have my first one from 2006 or so and still shoot it on paper at least 3-5 times a year. Ran across the “load data” this morning - 42 grains 5744 clean bore. So I went to cleaning and in the process of installing the breechplug, my socket got stuck. I ended up having to back the plug out and tapped/worked for about 5 minutes to get the socket off by removing the vent liner and tapping from inside the plug.
It was 9:41 and I had a Zoom meeting at 10 so I rushed to get everything back together and on to work.
At the range this afternoon, first shot was about 3” right, more smoke than usual in the shooting house, different sound and something splattered me in the forehead. Since I load on a spent primer I just thought maybe I had gotten some residue from cleaning and proceeded with shot 2.
After loading I went to prime and could see several grains of powder in the chamber area and a very deformed primer. It dawned on me that I had forgot to put the vent liner back in the breach plug.

When I was a young man in the early seventies I had a cva hawkins muzzleloader and a old man told me you can’t blow that up if you filled the barrel with black powder to the muzzle. Well I was young and dumb at the time and my brother inlaw just got out of the marines. Anyway we were in a huge gravel pit and I said hold my beer and watch this. I loaded about a ten inch column of 3f black powder with a patched round ball and touched it off. Well it was a bright sunny day and it shot a flame at least 50 yards and blew the hammer back and the cap was gone kicked like a mule to. Then my brother inlaw said let me try it so he did but held the gun by his hip and when he fired it the cap blew off and cut his cheek a little. It was an American made cva at the time and luckily we were shooting a round ball and nothing heavier. Moral of the story is don’t drink when you’re doing something that could be dangerous as in shooting firearms and some old men don’t have the brains they were born with.
