Subsonic Loads: I need a subsonic load for humane harvesting of fat wild/pet pigs at point-blank range. Great eating critters that eat macnuts from an overgrown orchard in back and my food scraps. I decided to use the .45 Pacnor/Encore with the HIS system --I’m ashamed to say I hadn’t tried since it was done years ago by Hank. For bullets I used things that I would never use again – 200 gr .40 cal bullet in a light blue sabot. In the ancient past I bought several hundred .40 cal bullets of various sorts for use in the light blue sabot. I forgot how tight those damn sabots are, but I was able to recall all my old tricks for getting tight bullets down. I figured the tight sabot would create plenty of pressure. I tested VV N110 at 13 gr and got speeds of 868, 880, and 890. At 15 gr N110 I got 1032 and 1020. Next up was H4198. 12 gr resulted in speeds of 580 and 625. 20 gr was 912 (then it started to rain). Conclusion: I’m amazed at how quiet a subsonic bullet is – like burping a kitten – well maybe a little more dramatic. I didn’t use ear protection at all and there was hardly any kick. Worthless information? Maybe, but just suppose your name is Hillbill and someone named Richard comes up to you at a competition and he has a mutt that keeps biting you on the leg. Hillbill could take the dog around the corner, use subsonic on him, then throw the carcass in a cooler and Richard would never be the wiser. Anyone see a problem with my N110 load of 15 grains? Anyone else worked up a subsonic load for .45 lately using N110 (I bought about 10 cans of the stuff 8 years ago and never used it since).
