We are going to do something new at this shoot and see how it goes, if it gets some interest, we will continue to do this at all the Kentucky Challenge and Polar Bear shoots.
Since I created a 22 long rifle board, we have gotten some interest and several post about 22 LR shooting. So, this year we are going to add a 22 LR match to the festivities at the Kentucky Challenge.
These 22 matches will start after at approximately 5:00 PM maybe earlier if we are running ahead of schedule.
We will be shooting from the bench, just like we do the muzzle loaders, front rest and a rear bag can me used for support.
What it will consist of is:
One target per shooter. Each target has 25 bullseyes, and five sighter targets. Each of the 25 scoring targets must have only one hole in it, so 25 shots, 25 little targets. The 5 sighter targets can be shot as many times as you want. There will be a 30-minute time limit for this match.
Rules will be simple, and we will try to keep it easy and fun for everyone but to list a few to get us started here they are.
1. Each shooter will have 5 shots of practice before the match begins, this is when you can make scope adjustments if needed.
2. No scope adjustments during the match.
3. Any 22 LR ammo can be used.
4. The targets will be shot at 50 yards for all adults and 30 yards for any youth that may want to shoot.
Classes: There will be two classes to get us tarted.
Target class: This is any rifle designed or set up for target shooting, no scope limitations, no trigger weight restrictions.
Hunting Class: This is any rifle designed for hunting and set up for such, a hunting rifle with a target scope will be in the target class. Trigger weight should be 3 pounds or more.
Other class could be added if we had a situation that would deem it necessary.
This is a completely free event for all paid shooters of the smokeless muzzle loader match, anyone that wants to come and shoot the 22 matches only can do so for a cost of $20.00
There will be a voluntary $10.00 anti for anyone that wants to shoot for the money pot, 100% of the money pot will be given back to the top three shooters. You do not have to pay the $10.00 if you don't want to, however, you will not be eligible to win the money pot but are completely welcome to shoot alongside the rest of the guys.
I am adding this event so we can offer something for every shooter and for those of you that may want to bring your little ones along and give them some experience at shooting a match like the big boys do. Also, your wives and girlfriends are encouraged to shoot. It will give them some practice time and confidence when out in the field.
The above is a guild line for us to get started, any of you that have experience in shooting 22 matches and have suggestions or ideas, please let me know.
So everyone bring you 22 LR to the fall shoot this year and lest have a little fun plinking some bullseyes.
