Just purchased a CZ457 and i have read several articles on how GOOD this rifle is. Iwas wondering what people are having the best luck with in regards to ammo?

Mine is 22 mag and it shoots Federal Champion the best. IIRC I tried at least 6 different common brands before I stuck with the Federals. I think half the fun is the experimentation.

It’s all about the ammo. Not sure what model you have but it’s just finding what it likes to shoot is the key.

I bought the mag version and the model is the American. I have Federal 30gr and CCI maxi mag 40gr to start with. Now, do to supply chain issues I couldnt find rings for 11mm style mounts. I ended up with Millet angle lock rings. I personally think Millet designed these to be a PITA!!! Beggars can't be choosers but these things suck. I had to jig them up with a 1" wooden dowel to aligne with the barrel to install a Vortex crossfire 4-12x44 BDC scope. Over all the CZ seems to be a very well biult rifle and will be making first shots today

I have 2 of them like that. I have these rings on a couple guns that are "straight" as well, and they have always done the job. They grip the scope tube exceptionally and never failed, even on some hard kickers.

My 457 is the Varmint MTR in .22 LR and now sports a Lilja barrel. It likes Eley Match.

Thanks for the replies guys! Life took me away for a phew weeks and have had no time to post. I love my 457 and its crazy that it loves Hornady 32gr the best of all! I love the Hornady company but have not had a good relationship with their box ammo in any of my firearms. Everything from the trigger to the fit and finish I'm Blown away! to shoot the groups that im getting at 150yds you can cover with a penny! Comforting to know that there is still great things being built in hour time that do exactly as they are supposed too!

Shooting yesterday at 100 yards with my CZ using Eley Match - 1062 fps rated velocity I had my best 8 group (five shots per group) average of .444". My smallest group was .175" center to center. Two of the other groups had a best 4 of .157 and .202". The largest group of eight was .512". I using a Burris 8 to 32 scope and a Harris 6 to 9" bipod. The bipod rubber feet sits on a chrome smooth license plate (had custom lettering on it which I removed).. This allows the feet to slide easily side to side or front to rear.......with the drop in the stock riding on the rear bag giving me elevation. With this set up, using my thumb and fore finger, I can move the rifle around like a Farley or Seb coaxial rest. When the crosshairs are aligned, I just kind of lock it in place and fire. This set up allows the rifle to recoil naturally. Since I started using this set up a few weeks ago, I have abandoned using by heavy original Bald Eagle front rest...........one less thing to drag to the range. I tried using a piece of plexi-glass but the rubber feet did not slide as smoothly as on the polished metal surface.

Mark...Thank you! I know that is coming from an accomplished rimfire shooter. Below is my target from that range session. I started shooting the .22 about 8:00 a.m. on a clear 55* morning. The weather was about as good as it gets for shooting a .22 rimfire.......there was basically NO conditions, so no weather related excuses. Only the shooter, rifle and ammo. The top row (eight five shot groups) was shot with Eley Match ammo rated 1062 fps. Several of those groups had some really small four shot groups and one out to open it up. I have no explanation for "why" that one shot left the group. I was not using the LabRadar when I shot these. I can honestly not say that it was my fault? Everything seamed the same....sight picture, trigger pull (9 oz.)? Oh, that orange 2" paster? That was my first 10 shots (Eley match 1058) (cold bore) prior to the above groups. Note that high shot at 12:00 (my first cold bore) The remaining 9 shots in 7/10". The second row was shot sometime after 9:30 when slight air movements were noted on my solo wind flag right at the 100 yard target. These four groups were shot with Eley Match 1060. The next two I went back to the 1062 lot. Had the Labradar on and they averaged 1106 fps out of my 20" Lilja match barrel. (I had also chronographed the 1060 lot and it averaged 1098 fps) So, it definitely pays to do your testing under the best conditions possible to get a true indication of what a particular brand and lot of ammunition is capable of. I have watched too many YouTube videos where the shooter is testing various brands and lots of ammo and I can see trees, brush etc. moving around. They radially admit that there is some wind blowing but confess that, that is the way it is? They have to shoot under the conditions they have when they come to the range..............Well, this is all well and good, but how is that any endorsement for a particular brand of ammo over another when the conditions vary? Almost none of these guys have much if any in the way of daisy wheel wind flags to assess the condition at the time they are pulling the trigger. So, if you watch these video's, take their results with a grain of salt and do your own testing. Buckeye68 is fortunate to live close to a Lapua test center where various lots of ammo can be tested in a tunnel. Then buy a quantity of the lot that shot the smallest bugholes!

Can anyone help me learn where to buy, or watch for, quality rimfire ammo? It sure is hard to find Eley, Lapua, SK and Wolf. And when I have found some, the prices are absolutely crazy. Thanks

I’ve bought from Clint Swigert in the past. He normally has Eley in stock but Lapua is still on back order everywhere except for the two test centers.
I live 7 miles from Lapua test center in Marengo, Ohio. It easy for me to have a gun tested often. Even then, they only sell 1 case per visit.

Do you have to be testing a rifle to be able to buy a case? I had no idea there was such a facility in Ohio.

If you have your gun tested and you don’t buy ammo from them they charge you small fee for there service.

Does Clint Swigert have a store and/or website? How do you contact him? I've read and watched a Youtube video about the load development program at the Lapua tech centers, very cool service they offer. I think they cater to those who have high-end competition .22lr guns. I'd be a bit embarrassed to send them my stock Kimber 22. Not exactly in the firearm-class of Voodoo, Rem-X, Bergara or CZ. Hey, maybe this is the excuse I need to order me one of those crazy accurate.....and super expensive, Voodoo rifles! haha Before shipping your new Voodoo, they offer to send the barreled action to the Lapua tech-center in, I believe, Arizona. The fee for this added service is very reasonable especially considering the ability to buy a case of Lapua ammo. I'll have to view a map to learn where they are in Ohio, might be a good opportunity to plan a road-trip.

Thank you, BillC, I'm going to get serious about locating some decent .22lr ammo. Not gonna spend $24 a box for the elite level match stuff, but hope to find something decent.
