Was getting worried that something was going on with the birds around here. Usually loaded with them in fall and early winter. Chickadees, nuthatches, bluejays, woodpeckers, sparrows, cardinals, doves, yada yada. There were none around. Since it got real cold and the snow piled up, they are everywhere. Been putting out suet and sunflower seeds all over the yard and it looks like a bird paradise out there. Huge fox squirrels too. I don't mind a few of them around They are cool. I make enough stations and spread the love around enough that they all get a nice buffet. The deer mop up the seeds durring the night and I reset everything in the morning before work and when I come home at lunch. Love watching the birds and it's amazing that these little creatures can keep warm when its this cold. I bet a chickadee doesn't even weigh an ounce!

They are out in force at my folks place too. The only issue is that their darned cat is getting to be too good at hunting (I suppose I don't really have a leg to stand on with that one, but that darned thing even hauled in a red squirrel). They love that its keeping the mice and chipmunks at bay, but I'd be happier if it was less proficient at killing birds...
