This is an old Marlin Mod 25 that I have had for years...I think bought it in 1972? Anyway, it is my squirrel gun and use it occasionally for rabbits. The first time I took it to the range I ran many different brands of ammo through it and it liked CCI Mini Mag HP's Blue Label. Bought two bricks and hunted only with it from that point on. When I ran out I bought another two bricks and I am down to 300 rounds now...so it has had 1700 rounds through it and still shoots one holers at 25 yards... 1/2" at 50 yards when I do my part. Its been a superb hunting rifle. Over the years it has gone through some changes and a few scopes but has always maintained reliable accuracy....should last me the rest of my life.

Rimfire shooters go from can plinking to One Holers at 50 yards and now, the game is heading out to several hundred yards. What you have is ideal for what you use it for; you don't need anymore accuracy.

I have never shot it at 100 or 200 yards Richard, but I would like to see some 100 and 200 yard groups shot with a 22. If anybody has some target pics I Would appreciate them posting here.

These are some groups I shot on Jan 26th. at 100 yards. I can't find the pictures but my 200 yard groups were in and around 1.5" to 2". The numbers on the bottom are the group sizes. On top is the velocity and ES for each two groups (10 shots) ( the groups are 5 shot). In other words, groups one and two the ten shot velocity was 1109 fps with a 16 fps ES. On Tuesday, Herman and myself were breaking clay birds at 300 yards with Eley match ammo.

Thats impressive Richard! Thanks for the photos. Maybe some day I will shoot my old Marlin at 100 yards (which I have never done) just to see what its capable of.....I expect my groups at that distance to be like your groups at 300 yards...or worse!!!! It will be interesting to see how the squirrel gun stacks up against a real precision rifle....but I do not have high hopes.

You would be surprised how well it does! Just do yourself a favor and don't shoot on a windy day. The BC on these .22's is so poor and the velocity so slow, that the wind (yes, even a light breeze) will really move them around! Next week at the club we are having a friendly .22 match at 100, 200 and 300 yards. I did not hear what the 100 yard targets will be but at 200 they are using golf balls suspended on a string and tennis balls at 300. Should be fun!
