I'm looking to make a custom build for Ruger 10/22. Not for competition. Just something that I can practice target shooting for a reasonable price and reasonable accuracy. Any suggestions on barrels, triggers,or chassis/stock? Barrel length? Anyone tried Kidd, Shaw, Volqartsen, Tactical Solutions? I'd prefer something that is drop- in with little to no adjustments.

I built a custom 10/22 years ago and used it for a short while in Small-Bore Silhouette. Back then getting a good trigger was the issue today there are a lot options and price points. I had a Breen Mnt. barrel blank and put a match chamber in it. It was very accurate you need to bevel the chamber so that the shells will feed properly. 10/22 barrels are easy to install for a DIY project
Today most match barrels offered for the 10/22 should shoot well. I had a laminate thumbhole stock on mine which my it pretty heavy if you look around you might one already tricked out that will fit your needs.

There are lots of good barrels out there at a lot of different price points, I would use a Kidd trigger. I have mine in a Titan stock, aluminum bedding block, pretty stiff and very user friendly for bags or the woods and it just feels good all around. they are also not real expensive which never hurts. My gun also wears a Green Mtn barrel that is threaded and so is the receiver (custom done) Good ammo is a must if you expect ant kind of repeatable accuracy. I have a good picatinny rail on the receiver along with good rings and a Sightron S-Tac 4x20 scope, it makes a very usable accurate package for the bench but especially for the squirrels, 40 yard head shots are the norm with a tree to rest on and I have done 65 yards before. Ammo is RWS Special Match but every gun likes different stuff and even then its batch specific.

I had mine in one of Boyd's thumbhole skeleton wood laminate stocks where the entire barrel is exposed. Picatinny rail, Ruger's aftermarket trigger, even had my NF 8x32 BR scope on it. I adapted one of my Bald Eagle Windage tops to fit the forend. Won some local club matches with it. Just sold to one of my shooting buddies who wanted to get into rimfire and he is amazed with its accuracy. Now I have dumped my money into a CZ 457 Varmint MTR and added a Lilja custom barrel. This .22 stuff is a Money Pit just like all the other disciplines (muzzle loading in particular). You keep wanting to get your groups smaller and smaller while your wallets gets emptier and emptier! Used to be XTP's and SST's were good enough than Kyle came along with his Accura....then AeroMax's Now I have gone from CCI's Winchesters and Thunderbolts to Eley Match/Tennex and Lapua Center-X. Accuracy does not come cheap!
