Last Sunday started our local indoor 22 club match. The first match was going to be a fundraiser for a fellow shooter from Kentucky. He lost his home in the recent tornado that hit his town. He comes to the ARA matches that our club holds in Marion Ohio.
So I packed up my Anschutz 2013 that is bedded in a McMillan Edge HBR stock, Lilja 27” SS barrel with a Harrell’s Precision tuner on the end of the barrel and a Nightforce 15x55 scope. Grabbed a couple boxes of Center-X ammo and my rest and off I went.
This is the first time I’ve ever shot at an indoor match, not sure what the rules were but since it was a fundraiser and a fun shoot I had nothing to lose. The range was in the basement of the club house. The length was 50 feet. They had 5 Caldwell portable foldout benches to shoot off of. It was 4 card match using 50’ NRA targets.
I was in the second group and on the first bench. I just put this scope on the gun so I wasn’t sure where the first shot was going to hit. Unfortunately, my scope would not focus down that low. I got lucky on the first shot because it only went 2” to the left of the sighter target. I dialed to the hole and my second shot was on target. With a black target and black cross hairs, I could barely make out where is was holding. After turning and twisting every knob on the scope it was as good as it was going to get. For the first relay, I shot a 94-5. I was a little disappointed with my results, but I did the best I could with what I had.
For the 2nd relay, I twisted on the scope some more to clear up the reticle and shot a 100-10 clean target.
3rd and 4th relay I cleaned both targets.
I ended up in 3rd overall. With my scope issue and a gun I just finished putting together, I’m super happy with my results. Now it’s time to find a scope that will focus down to 50’.
