I just picked up my new rifle and reattached the scope base after cleaning the oil out of the screw holes, also put a dab of epoxy between base and barrel to get good attachment. I am wondering what would be a good set of rings for this. Not looking at any objective lens over 44 mm so probably medium height rings. The trigger out of the box is very nice breaking cleanly at 1 pound 14 ounces. All input appreciated.

They used to come with a base and ring setup which would work on a 44mm scope. I have the same gun in a 45/70 I mounted a Burris full field 4x14x44 scope on it with med. Burris rings with inserts. I don't think a low set of rings will work are you planning on reloading the 444 or just shoot factory ammo. That 265gr Hornady is a very accurate bullet to bad there aren't more bullet choices. Thats why I went with the 45/70 I have mine loaded to the max with 310gr Arrowhead bullets 2400fps they are very accurate and kill deer like lighting.

I will second the hornady loads, i have a HR in 444, it puts 265ftx and 240rem flat points in same POI at 100yds, and will knock a HOLE in deer,

In regard to the base, I have used the ones that come with the rifles but have since went to Hank's pic rail for the CVA and I am very pleased with it. Advantage with pic rail mounting is you can swap scopes from gun to gun with no issues. The pic rail base is only $45 and for me money well spent. Hank has a video on barrel mounting the rail.

I have a converted CVA Scout Blued and black 45/70. I am using SEEKINS PRECISION 1" Tube, .76" LOW, 4 CAP SCREW RIFLE SCOPE MOUNTING RINGS on a 42 obj Burris and a EGW rail. Works well.
