What equipment and type of shooting or competing do you do?

I shoot sometimes with a group of guys on Friday nights. It started out a few years back with guys shooting whatever they had, they shoot out of a barn at 30 yds at bughole targets, one shot cold bore. At times there were 15 guys shooting at a time, pot was 3.00 a shot, it was a lot of fun.
Gradually the competition got stiffer and stiffer, guys started buying CZs and installing Lija barrels, 40x Remingtions, 52 Winchesters and the like. Now almost everyone has graduated to Anschutz and VooDoo in the last two years after I recommended a VooDoo to one of my friends and he started cleaning everyone's clock with it.
These days if you don't at least cut most of the center dot out of the target every shot you are not even in the running. My custom 10-22 built by a friend in Arkansas is pretty much out classed even with a good batch of RWS Special Match, a couple of years back I could win pretty regularly but one thing I have figured out, a man will spend big money to win small money and have bragging rights.
A few weeks back I went over to see what was going on and there were 5 VooDoo's and 6 Annies lined up on the wall, all are shooting high end match ammo and a couple have even made the journey to Ohio and had their guns lot matched with ammo.
Scopes are now Sightron and NightForce for the most part.
now days my custom barreled Ruger is a squirrel head buster, on occasion I will go over and get lucky with it and win a match but it is very competitive, I conserve my Special Match ammo for tree rats after deer season closes, honestly I look forward to getting out with Sasquatch and cracking a few heads.

Makes me feel like those guys live at the top of Trump tower and I live in my car. Lol.
Amazing what some guys will and can do, and what is spent!!!
My guns will crack some squirrel noggins too at huntable distances, and that's all the limelight I need.
Rock on!

Hi, I don't compete, but I am interested in what you use to customize your 10/22's. I got my daughter a small 10/22 a while back, but now she is outgrowing the rifle (length of pull is kind of short). So I just recently got a chassis to stick the barreled action in. I'm wondering what's a good drop-in barrel and trigger I can use. I'm no gunsmith so I'd like something that I could drop-in with little to no adjustment. What's an ideal barrel length and contour? Not for competition, but I'd like to see how accurate I can get it for a reasonable amount of money

In the mid 90’s I built a 10/22. Heavy target barrel, Volquartzen clamp on break, trigger kit, Houge overmold stock, at the time what I thought to be an awesome scope. It shoots pretty well but nothing like what I am seeing from Vudoo’s.

You might see better response by creating a separate thread specifically for the situation you are working with. I've never personally gone down the custom 10/22 path, but plenty of others have.

Haven't been here at Hank's in quite a while and saw this old thread. I shoot a custom semi-auto 10/22 by Joe Chacon and a Vudoo rimfire by Vudoo Gun Works. Shoot mostly off a bench at ABRA targets. (Auto Bench Rest Association) Attachments:

Sag......good to hear from you, been a while. I don't shoot competitively only at our local club matches. I had a 10:22 that I sort of customized with stocks and custom barrels but nothing quite like the kidd. I then got hooked on the CZ and have been somewhat modifying it with a lilja barrel on it. I shoot a weaver 36 power fine crosshair scope on it. I now pretty much have my five shot 100 yd groups down under the 1/2-inch mark with some going down into the ones. And yes this is all day long, provided I have good wind conditions. A couple members have those voodoos but I don't think I'm ready to spend the extra bucks to just shoot in local club matches. Right now I think I'm pretty competitive with those who do have voodoos. Definitely the Eli ammo along with a good lot, is the key.

I haven’t shot in a couple years but when I did it was at 40yds and I used a Farley front rest, the same front rest I used at long range and some sort of back bag that fit that stock. I no longer have the Farley and have replaced it with a Seb Neo and if I was going to shoot a rimfire match today I’d take it. Most of the rimfire matches I’ve been in I was shooting Wolf Match Extra. These Vostok’s seem to really like that ammo.

I recently acquired a Voodoo, it was in a KRG chassis that I Didn't really like for my needs so I decided to make a super squirrel thumper out of it. I had a Manners hunting stock that I scavenged from another gun set up for a 700 with BDL bottom metal, I purchased Voodoo's high dollar bottom metal and a 5 round mag, put the Rehab gun in the KRG and proceeded to recut the stock for the bottom metal. I also had to rebed the whole shooting match but in the end it's a pretty slick set up.
I put an Arken 6x24 scope on it and last thursday put it to the tree rat test, it passed with flying colors. A match rig? Na but I will try it and see how it fares soon.
It appears to shoot really well but time will tell. I got into it for a steal or otherwise I would have never sprung for one.

There are a couple of guys at my club with the VooDoo's and they do shoot pretty good. And, one has been up to Ohio to the Lapua facility for match ammo. That being said, on any given day, my CZ 457 Varmint MTR with Lilja barrel will out shoot them...........not by much and not every time but with .22 match ammo, you can never tell when a flyer can occur with "any" rifle. Since these are just local for fun matches, I'm not about to spend the extra bucks just to say I own a VooDoo! A lot of accuracy also has to do with the competence of the trigger puller and reading the wind. I bedded mine in its original walnut stock and have the trigger down to 9oz. The old 36X Weaver target scope with fine cross hair/dot is working just fine. Yeah, if I were to get a "rat killin" deal on a VooDoo or Annie, I might go for it
