Always interested in .40 results with different components. Sounds as if you had a successful deer year.

I had no problems with accuracy using the .40 297gr Hammer. I don’t like dealing with full formed.

I am using the 297 in my Apex .40, Sasquatch dispatched a fat little 6 point with it last week @ 144 yds, ran a short distance spilling red stuff all over with a well placed shot, not quite the same performance as the accumax sudden death bullet but it still works well. The Hammer is a exit every time bullet, yes it must be full formed but for those that like exits it's your ticket. The 300 Accumax out of my other .40 was a sudden death lightning rod, exits on most shots but not always.
either bullet works great, myself? I don't mind full forming but most guys don't care for it, next week in Ohio I will take both my Apex and the light .45, both work extremely well

The deer in Ohio are in for some unwanted/unhealthy attention real soon. My cousin and I will both be out there too, toting the SML. Shoot straight, as always.

I just started full sizing the 253 Pittman Hammers (253) about 3 months ago. I just run them through once. I was shooting 225 AMs with H322/62g, DI at almost 2800. Now the full sized, annealed Hammers are 2730+/-3. The accuracy increased significantly, especially at 300 yards (from 6” to 1/1/2” ) with the handicap of an 8x scope. The accuracy is so good that an upgraded scope is in the plan. The Vortex Razor Gen 2 , 42 mm 3x15 is a serious consideration or an already owned 5x25 V5 ! 50 mm, Conquest (a bit big, but nice). The Nov 13, 2022 buck was huge bodied, 3 1/2 years old, yet the Hammer bullet went through easily, apparently. Pittman Hammer 253 small hole in, 1” plus out. Big blood trail for the 20 yards the deer traveled. I’ve never regretted using a monolithic bullet, especially if annealed.
