The last 4 deer I’ve killed have been with rifles Jimbob made. This last deer found some corn that someone must have spilled (legal here). Story will follow. Opening day of gun season. 9 days. I was hunting about 300 yards behind my house. I normally wouldn’t shoot this size rack, but it was so unique and I wanted to kill a deer with the ultralight. About 80 yards, head on. Shot center of chest, dropped dead, no recovery of bullet. Hard to even find entrance. It will be interesting to see how accurate it can be at 300,400 yards.

I thought you lived in a southern state that didn’t produce big bucks. 😂 You sure seem to find some gems.

I thought you lived in a southern state that didn’t produce big bucks. 😂 You sure seem to find some gems. I try to dispel that myth. Seriously, that’s not a large rack in comparison. It was just so different and I wanted to break-in the ultralite. Couldn’t resist.

40 cal bullet performance so far:
225 AccuMax - doe, 100 yards, MV 2950, mid chest, knocked down, got up, ran 100 yds, mush inside, no exit nor blood trail. 275 Fury - ~175# buck, I think 130 yards, 2830 MV, no exit, mid chest, 60 yard traveled, no exit nor blood trail. 275 Fury - 100 yards, chest(forget hi or low) , maybe 10 yard travel, exit, blood 228 AccuMax - 2773 MV, head on, just over sternum, the buck above, 200+/- #. No exit, DRT. 80 yards 228 AccuMax - 2773’/sec , mid-chest, 140# +/- . 100-120 yards. DRT. I gave this deer away. Didn’t see an exit. Barely an entrance. 228 AccuMax - 2773’/sec. quartering away, last rib in, 60 yards. DRT. Couldn’t find entrance or exit. Inside, the entrance was the last rib, no exit.
So, all 3 228 AccuMax deer were DRT. Lot of damage inside each deer. No exits. Classic original Partition type performance, no. The deer didn’t die textbook like; rather, they just died instantly. Maybe, the textbook needs revised.

This morning 60 yards, quartering away (actually just 30 degrees off walking straight away). The lite 40 cal, entered last rib, no exit. 228 AM. No exit. DRT.

After 9 consecutive days last year of carrying around an 18# rifle/scope and killing 3 deer, carrying around 8# rifle/scope this year is much more enjoyable. But where the advantage that I notice the most is the ease of lifting the rifle up to rest on my expandable mono-pod inside my blinds. The ease of raising the rifle inconspicuously is much easier.

My wife thinks, “The Diamond” is a more descriptive name. It’s the only “Diamond” in the family.

FWIW, I’m essentially finished Gun hunting this year except for coyotes/bobcats - with the 40 mostly. I have quite a # of 253 (4085) Hammers with which I’ll work, full forming. I prefer monolithic bullets for hunting. Of interest will be the accuracy differences at 300-350 yards(my max) of the 228 and 253. I don’t expect the Hammers to be as accurate, but just want to know if they’ll be accurate enough.
