Has anyone IMR 4166 in any 45cal loads. Burn rate is a little slower than H4895 and supposedly the new powder is supposed to be less sensitive to temperature change. The reasons I am asking is because my hunting temperature can change quite a bit and the main reason is because It is always available when ever I go to my supplier of powder. Seems no one is buying it. So I figured maybe I could take advantage of an abundant supply of it. Thanks for your response

The last I shot it was with 350 Aeromax bullets.100 gr got me mid 2900's. It might be a bit on the slow side for 300 grain bullets. You could probably go up a few more grains or just see how 100 does?

I believe i was the first to post about using IMR4166 it is slower burning than H4895 I tested with 300gr and 325 gr bullets the accuracy was good but it didn't produce as good of results as H4895. That said if that's the only powder you can find it will work.
This not a good powder for any brake action or barrel nut gun because it takes over 100grs of this powder to get things going so be careful what you use it in. This is another example of a burn rate chart not yielding the results it should. I have also shot IMR 4166 in a 6mm Dasher with very good results in a small case the burn chart was pretty darn close it fell right between H4895 and Varget powder within a half a grain. In a 45 caliber muzzleloader it wasn't even close to where I thought it would be.
