Forgot to mention the muzzle velocity average for 62gr IMR4198 w/ a wool wad, Federal GM215M primer, a 275 gr Fury Star Tip ‘MZ’ bullet sized to .449” in THIS rifle is 2.482 FPS. For you “Old Head’s”….does that sound about right and perfectly acceptable for deer hunting 200 yards or less….(for now 😉)??

That’s the same speed I’m getting with 250 gr out of an 18” 450 bushmaster!

Very nice shooting. It just goes to show you that these little CVA will just flat out shoot when set up properly. The Green Monster is officially ready for deer season now!! Good luck.... The ‘Green Monster’ got a mouthful yesterday evening! Knocked off a big ‘ole doe at 180 yards. It was a ‘quartering to’ shot….she stopped and got nervous after ‘winding’ me and I figured I’d better go ahead and take the shot I had. The impact of the 275gr Fury completely lifted her up on her hind legs. Hard to believe she actually managed to run 75 yards. One down….many more to go (I hope 😇).

That's some nice shooting and a nice looking Scout! I predict a full freezer in your future. I didn't notice page 2 Looks like the freezer is gonna fill up quick.

I love mine also, I put a nice scope on it never even bore sighted it, shot it and it was basically dead on at 100yrds the first shot, I made a slight adjustment and moved out to 200 and it shoots basically a single hole in a lead sled off the tailgate of my truck.

Thank you, Sir!👍 I like my Scout quite a bit. Contemplating leaving the .300 Win Mag in the safe during our modern rifle season this year….will have to give that one a little more thought. Was pretty happy with that big doe. The 275gr Fury hit her hard….but surprisingly there was no blood trail until I finally stumbled upon where she went down. I followed the ‘back trail’ of blood and it only lasted @ 10 yards and stopped completely. She ran @75 yards from the spot I shot her. I also found there was no exit hole. I suspect all of this was probably due to my shot placement (for a quartering to shot) and the results would’ve been different with a more ‘orthodox’ broadside/heart shot. Hopefully we’ll see in November. 😇

Okay…so, I got the Fury 275 gr Star Tip ‘MZ’ shooting into a 1/2 minute. Now, I’m gonna start playing with the Fury 275 gr Star Tip MZ ‘2P’. They’re quite a bit longer and have more bearing surface than the regular MZ’s so I’m guessing I’ll have to back my charge of 62gr down a little to stay in the 2440-2480 fps range. Anybody shooting the ‘2P’s’ in their CVA conversion?🤔 The ‘2P’ is on the left and the regular ‘MZ’ is on the right.

Sure enough….the 2P’s shot well over 2500 fps using the same charge (62gr IMR 4198) as I use for the regular Star Tips. The regular Star Tips 3 shot average velocity is 2,482 FPS. I guess the additional bearing surface the 2P’s have gave up higher pressures. Unfortunately I just could not get consistent groupings from the 2P’s out of my conversion. They’re pretty long…..Nothing under 2.0” at 175 yards and pretty much always the “2 in and 1 out” scenario no matter what charge weight I explored. Now, don’t get me wrong….2.0” is completely within ‘minute of deer’ accuracy, but the regular Star Tips group consistently into a half-minute at 175 yards. I’m gonna stick with that! 😉

Looks like the Green Monster is on the right track. Nice shooting. Yes, Sir….and thank you!👍 This ‘front stuffer’ and I seem to work very well together. In fact, my center fire rifles are staying in the safe this hunting season. I really have A LOT of fun shooting ‘The Green Monster’! 😁

So, I gave the ‘Green Monster’ a facelift today. Whatcha think? Easier on the eyes?🤔
