Wondering if anyone has ran across this and has a solution? Keep getting this ring mark on the bullet. I am not a complete newb but am not as experienced as some but I can’t figure this out. Tip is not getting squished so I know it’s not bottoming out in the die. I’ve never had this problem before but this is the first time I’ve loaded ELD bullets. Rundown of components Redding competition 6.5 CM die set Hornady 143 ELD-X bullet .002 neck tension New Lapua brass run through a .262 sizing mandrel and chamfered

I use a 6.5cm Wilson chamber type bullet seating die Leaves the same ring on bullets. Very slight but there. Says in instructions its normal and does not effect accuracy.1/2" moa or less to 1000 yds. so I believe them. Do you have the vld seating stem in die?

That is the worse ring I have ever seen. You definitely have something wrong. I was going to suggest polishing the seating stem, but the problem you have polishing aint going to fix it.
Try a different type of bullet and see if it does the same thing.

If you are unable to determine a solution perhaps contact Hornady or Redding. They could probably get you steered in the right direction. I have not seen a ring like that from the seating die before either.

Looks to me like too muck neck tension. Might try a larger expander ball. That would be where I would go to fix problem. Not saying it’s the correct answer.
Have you put a micrometer on the mandrel? Wondering if it’s not out of spec.

Wondering if it’s not out of spec. Exactly the issue, I was using a .262 mandrel to open the new lapua brass and I guess I was getting too much spring back. I grabbed a .264 mandrel from a buddy on Saturday and with spring back, I’m guessing I have about .002 neck tension and the deformity is gone. I also used a bushing die to (.002 less than loaded round) and everything looks great. I’ve never had this issue with brass before. I’ve always used Hornady, Winchester, Remington or starline in the past. Guess I’m just not used to this “high” quality brass…
