I took out 40 cal hunting rig today that I call Wild Bill to work up a hunting load for it. The last time it was shot was during Ohio’s January 2021 muzzleloading season. The load was 74 grains of H4895 with a wool wad, HIS and a 250 grain Pittman AccuMax. This load has taken deer out to 619 yards. I wanted to see if the cold bore shot was still zeroed and a second follow up shot was on target to check for accuracy in a real hunting scenario. I was shooting of a bipod and rear squeeze bag. I shoot same load minus wad with 250 fury bullet. My barrel is a .392/400 Shilen barrel on Apex frame. Load crono’s at 2840. I made a 450 yard cold bore shot on steel at 450 with 9.2 MOA. It was about 3” left but perfect vertical.

Just checked my barrel after the gun has set for 10 days from the last time I checked on accuracy for a cold bore shot. I did NOT brush the barrel or use a bore snake or clean the barrel. I sized my bullet 4 times and pushed it down the barrel with no problem. This tells me that my die setting, power, wad and bullet combo is working together for optimal performance.
