Well the story behind this is Don’t Listen To Your Buddy A couple years back I built two guns for Mr T one for him and one for his son well his buddy Mr E seen how they shot and wanted one so I built him one and he got it last September so Mr T helped him set it up sizing bullet and so forth Mr T said he shot it about ten times and sent it back home with Mr E in the meantime Mr E got covid and didn't hunt last year so Sunday a week ago Mr E calls Mr T and says lets shoot the ML so he takes it over to Mr T to shoot Mr T ask if its loaded Mr E says no so they proceed to load it and get a bullet stuck in about half way down so then they think they shoot the stuck one out and this is the result ThinK GOD NOBODY GOT HURT

Thanks jimbob, if it does not go all the way down looks like its not wise to shoot it? THANKS FOR THE POST!! I’m sure it had to be loaded If not with the bullet stuck half way down and not at the powder all it would have done was go Poof and probably not pushed the bullet out

Been there, lived to tell about it relatively unscathed and it's something you think about EVERY time you sit down to pull the trigger. A very expensive but very valuable lesson for this ole boy.
To those that think they are way to smart for it to happen to them? BETTER THINK AGAIN!

To those that think they are way to smart for it to happen to them? BETTER THINK AGAIN! I was a fraction of a second from doing this exact same thing. I hunted put my gun up for the year without shooting it. Got it out 9 months later to make sure it was on sat down at the bench was just about to dump powder down and thought huh I don’t remember if i shot it or not last year. Proceeded to fire it before loading and still had a load in the barrel from the year before. Witness marks are a great thing. I also got used to shooting a primer o before loading foe the first time after the gun sits for a while.

That WAS a nice looking rifle. But, at least there are no flesh wounds to be mended, only steel.

I’m glad no one was hurt. We’re all capable of doing that. I can’t believe some of the things I do now. I believe it’s because my hair has turned gray.

We need reminders pretty often and that's an unfortunate fact. I hear guys say it will never happen to me! I'm to smart to let that happen! I certainly hope so because when you let your guard down mistakes can bite you. most ribboned barrels happen because of a double load left over from last year, I have heard that one over and over again. Imagine what could have happened if it had been in a conversion gun?
A dedicated ramrod with a witness mark is invaluable.

I tell the friends here its always best and safe to use a witness mark or to remove the bolt or break open the action shine a flashlight down the barrel or do both, no light do not load, check and double check, still unsure remove the breech plug, as mentioned in the pass if I loaded or leave loaded I have some RED DUCT TAPE I put over my muzzle brake to get my attention !!

Sometimes I think my gray hair has turned my gray matter brown. How many have gone the other way and forgotten the powder? Even a saboted bullet makes a funny sound when it hits the breech plug!

Unfortunately, the more you shoot, the more chances you have to FU? The fact that I have probably shot over 20,000 rounds in the 15 years I have been playing with these ML's is the reason for my three FU's! Fortunately, the fact that all my rifles had heavy barrels, I only had bulges and not blow ups. You have to NOT let anyone distract you when loading and shooting. You know, the guy who asks you a question while your loading? ?

Last year a friend came to my range to check his zero of his sml for the deer season. I watched him load powder and bullet and then his work phone rang and he took the call. 15 mins.later I walked over ,he ended his call and proceeded to dump another load of vv120 down the bbl of his custom encore. I told him to stop as the rifle was already loaded! He turned the rifle upside down and out came the powder. The witness mark on the rr proved to him it WAS loaded! He was thankful that I stopped him as he did not think it was loaded.SO we all need to not get distracted and always use that witness mark!!!
